Wolfgang Bernhard has left the building

And he's not coming back, despite German media reports that the ex-DaimlerChrysler COO and current chief of VW would be returning to his cubicle in Auburn Hills at DCX HQ. Bernhard was ousted from DCX awhile back after his plans to reinvigorate Mercedes didn't jive with his superiors. He was also one of a few top execs that disagreed with Juergen Schrempp's strategic vision for DaimlerChrysler. The Detroit Free Press is reporting that DaimlerChrysler has stated outright that the young executive best known for piloting the Viper V10-powered Tomahawk concept bike onstage at the 2003 Detroit auto show will not be returning to the company.
