New Pope-mobile nixed

Despite expressing interest in providing the Pope a new bulletproof Pope-mobile based on the Touareg, Volkswagen has decided against it in compliance with the Bishop of Rome's own wishes. VW was to have presented the new papal car to the Pope at the World Youth Day celebrations in August in Cologne. VW is a sponsor of the event and will be providing organizers with at least 100 vehicles. For the time being the Pope will use John Paul II's phat ride, which is a heavily-modified Mercedes Benz ML 430.
