Doing the math on hybrids

Not too long ago we asked do hybrids save money? Recently over at OmniNerd they asked is a hybrid worth it? The question is backed by a lengthy mathematical analysis that compares the cost of ownership between two vehicles. This isn't exactly new news, but the article is very thorough.

We're not going to draw any conclusions because the data presented can mean different things to different people (plus my eyes start to melt when I see algebraic equations). However the author of the article summarizes his findings by saying gas-electric hybrids are the most fuel-efficient cars on the road, but they are not necessarily the most economical choice, regardless of their mileage ratings.

You might have trouble getting through to read the story. Reloading the OmniNerd page a couple times should do the trick, though.
