The new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray has picked up another buff book accolade after capturing Road and Track's Performance Car of the Year award. The seventh-generation of America's sports car (sorry Viper, Mustang, et al.) has been named Automobile Magazine's Automobile of the Year.

Automobile's award to the Corvette over competitors is the mirror image of its rival Motor Trend, which named the Cadillac CTS its car of the year over the C7. The CTS was, according to the Automobile team, the closest contender to the mighty Stingray. Great news all around for General Motors it seems.

As for what pushed the Corvette past its distant, four-door cousin, Automobile commended its excellent, 6.2-liter V8 calling the car's performance "simply awesome" while also remarking that it is easier to drive fast than ever before thanks to steering and chassis tweaks. Following a theme set by other publications, there were also plaudits for the interior, of all things, with the buff book complimenting the car's ergonomics and material quality, while also praising the standard seats.

Hop over to Automobile to read its full rundown of just what it was that pushed the Corvette Stingray past its rivals, and then tell us in Comments if you agree with the choice.

tell that to Corvette Racing who dominate ALMS... ever driven either? C6 was a badass in the corners, I can only imagine how the C7 is... I love both cars, but I would say the result around a track might be closer than you would think...

Obviously a Corvette fan trying to make Audi fans looks stupid. Fail. Audi fans don't need the help anyway. ;-)

I stopped reading Automobile last year. Just auto industry lackeys and totally unobjective suck-ups. The worst mag out there.

Easily the best looking car in the world right now. I haven't been much of a fan of the corvette for a while, but this one, wow, bout time GM, and well done!

Looks cheap in person. At least in white - all the black plastic cladding stands out too much. Looks like the previous Corvette after a day at PepBoys (though, the interior is a definite improvement!)

The Corvette, it seems will always be a great car. Sure, it has its drawbacks, but for the money, it's hard to get more sportscar. I don't think there has really ever been a "bad" Vette. Even the "bad" Vettes were pretty great cars for their time. I think that even if there comes a day in the future when the Corvette has long ditched it's V8 because we've sucked dry all the dinosaur juice, somehow the Vette will still be there, still being awesome, even if it runs on electrons or rapeseed oil or hippy farts.

The Corvette is an extraordinary vehicle. I'm not surprised at all that this car received another award.

only thing I dont like is the tacky 80's rear end with the overly sharp style. Hopefully in 3 years the refresh will fix it.

It's getting all this love and attention and yet, purists still think it's a horrible car because the tail lights aren't perfect circles. You just can't please some people. Also, why hasn't Ford made a Corvette competitor yet? the closest thing they have is a Comaro comparitive Mustang, and like the Camaro, the Mustang's interior is ages behind the Stingray.

I'm calling BS on you owning a C6. With a name like EvoShift I expect you masturbate to pictures of something like a GT-R which is a fast car known for (gasps* ) AWD and a dual clutch. So I really think you're bluffing when you say you have a C6. Most Vette owners love the proper RWD setup for a sports car.

Wait, so you're complaining that the C7 doesn't have DCT and AWD, yet you're driving around an old C6 that still doesn't have either of which you mentioned? You should realize that Chevy's never gonna put either of those in a Vette. it would ruin what is special about it. Corvette's (regardless of how much technology the new one has crammed in it) is about barebones performance. Big, honkin pushrod V8 up front that connects to the back wheels. There's something special about that. Put AWD in it and all that goes away. I agree with you to a small extent. I would happily take AWD in a Chevy SS, but not a Camaro or Corvette. That would ruin their well personalities.

Wow, i want one so bad, this car got to be great. Winning Road and Track performance car of the year, Yahoo car of the year, Popular Mechanic perfomance car of the year. In the november issue of Car and Driver, it bested a Porsche 911 Carrera S in a comparo. Not to mention rave reviews from many auto magazines. And now Automoble car of the year, which also named Corvette chief engineer Tadge Juechter, man of the year. Thats a lot of awards, and a lot of haters to go with it. I wouldn't be suprise if this car win the North American car of the year award.
