One of the top comments on this YouTube video from Red Bull reads (sics throughout), "Red Bull isn't an energy drink company... It is a marketing company that owns a energy drink. It all ways has been." And that's just fine with us, so long as the Austrian company continues putting together stunts like this.

The idea of pitting a plane against a car is pretty common, and even when using a V8 Supercar and a Red Bull stunt aerobatics plane, it's nothing we haven't seen before. That said, adding a beach on Australia's gorgeous Gold Coast to the equation brings an additional layer of excitement to the car-versus-plane trope. And while we're not really sure how this is actually a race (watch, and you'll see), the clip is certainly entertaining - how difficult must it be to keep that racecar pointed in the right direction on sand?

The whole point of the stunt is to promote the Gold Coast 600 V8 Supercars race, set to take place on the streets of Surfers Paradise this weekend. Take a look below for the entire video from Red Bull.

That plane looks a lot like my neighbor's, an Extra 300L (2 seat, aerobatic). What an unbelievable thing. Pure performance. Barely pressure the stick and *zing*, 60 degree bank. Except what he does involves the stick slashing from side to side... I made it just past half the standard Sportsman aerobatic routine before throwing in the towel though I regrouped (barely) for a Lomcevak. I was clutching the bag the whole way back to the airport (made it!) and my balance was slightly off the rest of the day.

That's not just a V8 supercar. That's a Holden Commodore, the Australian car that GM turned into the Pontiac G8 and tried to sell in the States.
