Kia KV7 concept teaser – Click above to expand

A few weeks ago, Kia released a teaser sketch of its new KV7 concept that will debut next week at the Detroit Auto Show. The initial sketch showed us that the Korean automaker is working on what appears to be a tall hatchback or small crossover, with the most interesting design feature being a set of gullwing doors for rear seat passengers.

Now, Kia has released this close-up shot of what appears to be the KV7's front three-quarter view, showing off the rather unique headlamp units and full LED bar below the front bumper. Kia explains:
"Conceived as a challenge to the industry's current interpretation of the van, the KV7 incorporates several innovative lighting elements currently being evaluated for future Kia production vehicles."
Not only are we eager to see what the concept looks like in the flesh, but we're curious as to just how big the KV7 is. As Kia states, this is an "interpretation of the van," so we're thinking this could be some sort of futuristic minivan concept, or perhaps something similar in size to Ford's new 2012 C-Max. Either way, we'll have the full details live from Cobo Hall next week, so stay tuned. Kia's (short) official statement is available after the jump.

Who thinks the new Acura ZDX is orignal? Will its not. The side profile is a click and paste from the 2009 Mazda 6 just like at the window design but since its not Korean haters like IBx1 is going to act like the Acura didn't copy the Mazda's side profile. Also who thinks the Buick Regal is orginal? Will its not that side profile is from the Infiniti G sedan, 2009 Accord, 2009 Legacy and BMW. Who thinks the Buick Verano is orginal? Will its not the greenhouse came from the Legacy back in 2002.

Camry and Acura TL hint headlights. Chevy Impala and new Escape concept hint headlights.

2009 Subaru Legacy hatch and 1996 Tuarus hint talights. Who else thinks Toyota, Honda Suzuk, Mazda and Nissan are orginal? Who still thinks Ford, Chevy and Chrylser are orgianl?

      I'm thinking Sedona replacement.
The one reason I'd say no is that the Rondo/Carens lives on elsewhere and can always be brought back to the US. But there's nothing I've heard of in the pipe to replace the Sedona/Carnival.
Or Rondo? That seems like it could be a burgeoning segment, and they just cancelled it.

What artso06 said: @ajamyl; ur opinions but what you state is soooooo general. My noise also looks like tom cruze...doesn't mean i have his face or body.

Naw really? Seems like you miss the point so I'm going to bring that to the kitchen table too. The point is this, how are you going to say the Koreans are the ones copying when I just brought all the non Korean product designs to the kitchen table.

Oh yeah correction, the 2010 Ford Taurus' headlights is not just from the 1999 Nissa Altima but the entire front end is. That's my point arts06 and if you don't have nothing to say after I just listed over 100 cars that looked alike and you never knew STFU .

The Buick Verno sedan's greenhous copied the 2009 Focus'.

Oh and artso060 any idiot knows that the Volvo, SAAB, CR-V and the 0ld lancer hatch are totally different even if they copied each other's tailights. But only the cee'd sw is the copycat because its Korean.

Also, artso060 your corny what you mean designers have to play it safe? What about the Dodge Caliber, Smart Car (before the Toyota IQ), Prius (before the Insight and Leaf), Cube, Juke, Soul and Lexus IS huh? Those are orginal? What about the Jaguar XF and the new BMW CUV? Huh? Those are orgianl? What about the PT CURSIER? What about the Jeep Liberty huh? My name is JTZ don't mess with me I can get cars from A TO Z.

Sedans with slanted C pillars, 2003 Camry, 2007 Camry, 2004 Accord, CTS, 1st generation Lexus Is, Pontiac G6, Chrysler 300, 2010 Ford Taurus but only the Kia Forte's c pillar was the copycat.

The 300 looks like a Rollsroyce.

      The G6 looks like a 2003 Camry.

      BMW's grille copied Pontiac's grille

The Montero's side and Lexus GX side look alike.

2010 Ford Fusion and 2009 Legacy sedan hint tailights.

2002 Legacy and 2008 Ford Edge hint tailights

Come on artso06 bring on. Who else thinks Toyota, Honda, Ford, Chevy, Suzuki, and Nissan are orgianl?

So hyundai gets the SRX/9-4x ripoff with the curb, and kia gets the Flex/Explorer ripoff with this thing. If you don't know what I'm talking about, look at the other teaser shot for this car.
We should be thankful KIA Kopies other good designs because KIA originals are horrible looking.
Wow! You are so right. The sketch of the KV7 looks like a very slight evolution of the Explorer America concept from 2008.

And the Explorer is just a large version of the Mini and people are saying more Equinox than the 9-4X for the Curb; but Mercedes and Kia did it 1st w/ the M Class and Mesa concept.

Funny how IBx1 rags on Hyundai/Kia and yet says nothing about the grill design on the Focus Electric despite it being an amalgamation of the Aston grill and the grill on the Sonata hybrid.

And oh, the Curb concept was designed by former GM designer Phil Zak.

Looks like they're starting to clean up their design language on the front headlights, instead of the all-over-the-map copy and paste.

But surely that would make too much sense!

Copy and paste? Wouldn't you be talking about every manufacturer in the world? Design language is what it's called. That's why they're whole lineup has the same design cues.
It's hard to imagine such small lighting elements illuminating a dark country road. But still, it's an impressive design. Definitely a horse of a different color.
