Click above for a high-res gallery of the 2010 Mazdaspeed (MPS)

The outgoing Mazdaspeed3 had a lot going for it. The combination of a turbocharged 2.3-liter inline-four, six-speed manual, LSD and a practical hatch solidified its place in our hearts when it spent a week in the Autoblog Garage. While the aforementioned good stuff carries over to the redesigned 2010 model, any amount of stealth has been gobbled up by the new MPS' gaping maw.

Output is now rated at 256 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque, and the new rear fascia with its Mazda6-inspired tail-lamps and darkened lower bumper looks great in person, but the Cheshire Cat grin and bulbous hood-scoop could give pause to buyers looking to fly below the radar while hunting WRXs and GTIs.

It looks like mazda picked up a few designers from Acura. UGLY!!!

Actually it looks more like an evolution of the last Mazdaspeed3, whereas the Current WRX/STI looks nothing like the previous WRX/STI. Subaru made a good looking car into an ugly car, Mazda has made a good looking car into an even more aggressive good looking car.

More like Subaru designers. Compare the side profile of this car to the STI. Almost identical. They even borrowed the huge hood scoop idea.

Um, OK. That's quite a bit of visual noise up front.

Strikes me like some kind of anime acid trip.

This design certainly is different but it isn't nearly as bad as the comments suggest. My guess is that people will come around when the car starts showing up on the road. It has happened before with other models.

Tell that to Subaru dealers when the WRX received the koala bear nose of the Tribeca in 06-07 (the model before the complete redesign...) Sales dropped off big time... 04-05s had a bit more value!!!

That id one hell of a massive scoop! Wtf where they thinking? I would have to buy an aftermarket hood just to un-rice it a little. :/

Hunting gti's? Oh come on you know even a shopping cart with a lawn mower engine can beat a gti. I'd like to see the cobalt ss turbo with the upgrade package take this mazda on. Oh wait the cobalt would severely own this car in that case.
