Spy Shots: 2010 Mercedes S-Class
The current Mercedes S-Class is getting the nip/tuck treatment, and when the newer, younger looking car arrives in mid-2009 -- as a 2010 model -- it will come with an Audi-esque band of LED daytime running lights below the headlamps, and a Porsche-esque band of LEDs in the lower front fascia. Out back, the rear lamps get a much slicker treatment in basic red and white. And for the interior, SPLITVIEW will make it's split-personality entrance so that passengers can watch movies without being disturbed by all that driving going on in the next seat. Thanks for the tip, Jordan![Source: World Car Fans]

I prefer the stately look of the older S-Classes. The current one lacks the aristocratic feel. Hope Merc will return to the earlier looks with the next all new model.

The previous poster is correct, the S-Class needs to have a stately look. This type of car need to have a strong road presence, think Rolls Royce Phantom or Bentley Arnage. The S-Class (and 7 series BMW) must stand out amongst lesser cars the way a mansion would stand out in the suburbs. Large, strong and massive.

Led lights under the headlights for Audi = way cool
Merc = not cool

While I agree the S-Class should be stately, it's also a very popular taxi car in Germany. Walk out of Tegal airport in Berlin and you'll see dozens of brand-new light beige E-Class and S-Class taxis.
So while it might be exotic in places like the US or Africa, it's just a "Cadillac" in Europe. It's no where near a Rolls Royce.

I can see SPLITVIEW setting off marital spats:
Wife: "You just touched Jennifer Aniston's boob! You worm!"
Husband: "I was just adjusting the climate control! Honest!"

I actually like the current taillights better.

+1 on the current taillights. They are more unique with the strips of body-colored sheet metal in between. This "new" taillight probably just saves them money lol. It looks so boring.

Those rearview mirrors do not fit the overall shape of the car. Did they change the shape of the headlights too? Something looks wrong on this car now. I think it looks much better at the moment.

I like the new front, but the new rear looks too generic (the current rear looks a lot more distinctive).
Maybe. Just maybe.

Improved.
Still, I must admit being more fond of the previous gen S-Class's exterior.
Love the current ones though. Hoping to see the 5.5L with direct-injection debut on this 2010 S550 and the 2010 E550.

Hahaha. I love the guy in the comments section of the linked article that said the tail lights look like Maybach tail lights.
Hahahahahaha.
