Top Gear returns July 25th, headed to the North Pole

Contrary to the now-defunct rumors, Top Gear will make its return on July 25th with an episode that'll surely send chills down the presenters' spines. The summer comeback episode will feature yet another race, this time pitting Clarkson and May against Hammond on a 450-mile trek from Northern Canada to the North Pole. According to Final Gear, the definitive Top Gear and Fifth Gear fan site, the journey will involve Jeremy and James traversing the Arctic in minus-85-degree Fahrenheit temperatures at the helm of a heavily-modified pickup, while Richard sees the sights on a sled pulled by ten Inuit dogs. With just ten days to go, let's just hope that the next series features more car reviews and bit less fluff.

If you want car reviews, which get boring after a while, watch fifth gear. I dont mind that top gear does less reviews now, all the bits that they do are very entertaining.

Anyone who says something to this effect clearly DOES NOT GET IT.
Top Gear car reviews are about two things:
1. The Car
2. The personally interjected in the review by the presenter
The combination of these things make it interesting and entertaining.
Fifth Gear car reviews are boring, as they just don't have likable personalities. Top Gear car reviews are completely different.

One episode of Top Gear lasts an hour.
5 minutes of that hour is dedicated to reviewing cars.
In the remaining 55 minutes they have an interview with an celebrity and do something stupid like turning a car into space shuttle, amphibious vehicle etc...
The show is funny and amusing.. but I don't take it serious.
The two shows are different. Fifth gear is dedicated to cars, reviewing them and telling us what's good or bad about them. It has a professional team with names such a Tiff, Vicki, Plato which are/were very sucesfull professional drivers. So if you are hardcore car fan, and you want fast cars, you like the speed, then Fifth Gear is for you.
If you're a goofball that doesn't take cars very seriously, if you're 25 and above, and still live with your mother, then yes... you should watch Top Gear.

No, the bits are stupid in the typical British way. Get to the f*cking point about the car. I don't care about the moronic stunts. I'm glad Top Gear is out of the States, but American needs a replacement and Speed TV isn't cutting it.

Then don't watch it Gerard. You have to make an effort just to download and watch Top Gear in the US right now, so why are you bitching about a show that you wouldnt get anyway?

bob cobb, He's just expressing his joy because he's unable to watch to the show, lucky guy. I wish they didn't air the show where I live.. well.. I can just change the channel, and that's what I'll do

Top Gear > Fifth Gear. Anyone watching TG and expect they will getting something like stuff in C&D is watching the wrong show.

I am in the same boat here stateside. I mean, I get the episodes, but through alternative methods which some question. I feel though that it shouldn't be "questioned" in that I WOULD watch it on TV if it were on there, but its not, so I don't see any problems with getting it another way....

BBC-Canada is channel 635 on Bell Express Vu which shows Top Gear on Sundays at 4pm and replay at 7pm. All you have to do is order that package or get yourself one of those cheater systems and you can watch it.

Thanks Dusty but I'm commited to TopChoice. I do get a west coast version of BBC but no Top Gear. I'll see what I can find on the the StarChioce website. The program is sounding to be very interesting. There are circumstances why I can't/won't use a cheater.

IMO with the ninth series of Top Gear, they became the best show on TV bar none. Is it available at all in the US? My terrible cable provider (Cox) certainly doesn't carry it, so I have to download it with BitTorrent (the BBC doesn't even sell it in the US on DVD! I WOULD buy it if they did!)

no, it's not shown in the US, though Discovery used to show a shorter edited retooled version of it before. We have to use the internet to watch it.

A while ago, I complained about the lack of Top Gear via the BBC America site, and this was the response I got:
"Thank you for taking the time to contact us. We hope you'll be pleased to know that BBC America indeed plans to accelerate into the fast lane with the U.S. premiere of "Top Gear," which we anticipate airing later this year. Although at this time we are unable to provide specific scheduling information, we encourage you to check back with us in coming months for details.
And, as always, for the most updated information about what is airing on BBC America, we recommend visiting the 'TV Schedule' page on our website, BBCAmerica.com/tvschedule. It includes printable daily and weekly schedules and is searchable by time of day and time zone.
We thank you again for your interest in BBC America's "Top Gear."
Warm regards,

Top Gear is not strictly a car show. It is basically an entertainment program that happens to features cars. Many watch it for the laughs and not because of the cars.
