eBay Find of the Day: Matthew McConaughey's 1971 Corvette Stingray Convertible

The Universe in its unquestionable wisdom has seen fit to make Matthew McConaughey a star. Apparently the A-list actor sees the irony in this fact just like we do and has decided to give a little back to the cosmos. McConaughey is auctioning off his 1971 Corvette Stingray Convertible on eBay Motors with all proceeds earmarked for Oprah's Angel Network's Hurricanes Katrina and Rita recovery efforts. Currently the bidding is up to $40,040 with 25 bids.
McConaughey purchased the Stingray at a car show in 1998 and has driven it all over Texas with the top down. In his own words the car is being sold because "it will help so many with the necessities in life... [and] I can't pull my Airstream with it."

What is this crap? Oprah has enough cash to re-build the poorer sections of New Orleans twice over. I was there last month and it is depressing as hell—it looks like Katrina happened two weeks ago.
Oprah has a network of angels to those in need? Pa-lease.

I hear ya, New Yorker. I was in NOLA last week. I also visited Bay St. Louis/Waveland, Gulfport, Kiln, and Biloxi. Its bad everywhere. The drive on I-10 into NOLA is like driving thru what I'd imagine Beirut looks like right now. If anyone out there is looking for something to do on vacation: grab a hammer, get hooked up with a volunteer group on the gulf and go to work - they need the help.

I'm too far north to pitch in with the rebuilding of New Orleans, but I will pitch in to defend McConaughey. What have you got against him? Go rent a copy of Dazed and Confused and check out his role as Wooderson:
"Let me tell you what Melba Toast is packin' right here, all right. We got 4:11 Positrac outback, 750 double pumper, Edelbrock intake, bored over 30, 11 to 1 pop-up pistons, turbo-jet 390 horsepower. We're talkin' some fuckin' muscle."
Cool.

RossL, you are right. He played a really cool car guy in a movie so he must be a great guy.

I bet it's an auto. Every movie I have seen him drive in makes me wonder if he really can drive...

Does the Vette come with weed hidden in various crevasses?
I, for one, don't want a car when I can't rule out that the previous owner didn't play bongos while naked inside it and with another man watching him.

Why can't you tow an airstream with it?
I've seen Goldwings pulling airstreams. Well, maybe not.

Who's Matthew McWhatever? I agree that celebrities who want people to pay over the odds for their old possessions to raise money for charidee need a kick in the balls. Bono for one should try using the bus instead of private jets.
