2018 BMW i3

2018 i3 Photos
The all-electric BMW i3 is a new direction for both the German manufacturer and the industry. It's the first-ever electric vehicle to be designed from the ground-up to be electric, and the first mass production use of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) for the passenger cell. The i3 is powered by a 170-hp electric motor and a 33 kWh/94 Ah lithium-ion battery pack, boasting an all-electric range of 114 miles; the battery can be charged in approximately 4.5 hours with a 220 volt charger, or as quick as 40 minutes to 80% with the SAE DC Combo fast charging system. A small range-extender engine can be optioned as well; this two-cylinder gas generator can roughly double the i3's range by maintaining the battery's charge. Designed to make option selection easier, there are three feature levels known as "Worlds" to choose from: Mega, Giga, and Tera. A Technology + Driving Assistant Package, Parking Assistant, harman/kardon premium audio, power moonroof and 20-inch aluminum wheels are also offered. Standard safety features include anti-lock brakes, stability/traction control systems, LED headlights and taillights, BMW Assist eCall and a security system, along with six airbags; new for 2018, a rearview camera is now standard. For 2018, the BMW i3 gets an enhanced exterior design, including full LED low/high beam headlights. Additionally, a more powerful 184-horsepower BMW i3s trim joins the lineup, featuring a sport-tuned chassis, 20-inch forged aluminum wheels and unique high-gloss black styling cues.
