Bridgestone drops $240 million to settle with Ford

Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire LLC said Wednesday that it will pay Ford Motor $240 million to settle outstanding issues related to Ford's famous Explorer/Firestone tire safety recall.
Back in 2001, Ford's then-CEO Jaques Nasser (pictured) said the company would replace 13 million Firestones, at a cost of $3 billion, as a result of the Ford Explorer rollover recall fiasco. Bad blood between long-time partners Ford and Bridgestone resulted from Ford's PR blitz blaming the rollover problem exclusively on the tires, when it appeared that there were significant problems with the Explorer's design.

The current settlement apparently settles all remaining differences between the companies connected with the recall.
