When should you buy last year's model?

Automakers have almost completely expunged their 2005 inventories, but there are still some sweet deals to be had. Five Cent Nickel pointed us to a CNN article that offers advice on when it's smarter to buy the model from last year that's still sitting on the dealer lot. There are situations where the worth of the car you purchase at the time you trade it back in or sell it may be significantly lower if you go for last year's model. That lower value means real money lost on the back end, despite the savings you may have realized at the time of purchase.
