Hyundai claims it will catch up with Toyota within 2-3 years on hybrids

First, I would like to apologize about the fact that this is yet ANOTHER blog on hybrids. It seems like the only thing in the news these days is hybrids and Frankfurt, and as you know, Randall and John are doing a bang-up job with Frankfurt, leaving the hybrid news for the rest of us.

Defying the trend that has all the other global automotive manufacturers jumping into partnerships with one another on the whole hybrid thing, Hyundai has announced that it will go at it alone. Claiming that it will be neck-and-neck with Toyota within two to three years, the company says by 2010 it will reach production of 300,000 hybrids. The manufacturer will initially offer a hybrid version of its Verna compact.

Thanks to Sovereign1 for the tip.
