A meeting of the greens...

San Francisco, California. Land of high gas prices and a very serious breed of environmentalists. What better place than that for Ford, Toyota and Honda to give the world a peek at the latest technology in alternative powertrains?
In an effort to help promote the environmentally-friendly efforts of various automakers, the Sierra Club put on what it calls "the world's largest showcase of hybrid cars." At the event, Ford showed off its Mercury Mariner Hybrid, and Honda offered up a peek at its 2006 Civic hybrid.  Toyota didn't unveil any new technology, but the company's efforts toward hybrid powertrains earned it a spot at the conference. Invitees were given the opportunity to test drive a range of hybrid vehicles.
