Frankfurt debut Part II: official pics of Suzuki Grand Vitara

Many pics of the next Suzuki Grand Vitara have been either caught or deliberately released over the past few months, but the Japanese automaker yesterday released official pics of the new compact SUV in both 5-door trim and a SWB 3-door model not likely to be sold in the U.S. The current Grand Vitara traces its lineage all the way back to the Geo Tracker, which indicates the new model being debuted at Frankfurt is long overdue. Available powerplants will include a 2.0L four-cylinder and 1.9L diesel for the 5-door and a 1.6L four-cylinder for the 3-door. The chassis is now apparently of unibody construction that employs a "built-in" ladder frame to increase rigidity for those rare off-road incursions. Suzuki needs a vehicle to help it register a discernible blip on consumers' radar, and the new Grand Vitara appears as if it will warrant consideration from compact SUV shoppers around the world.
