An American pony car outdoes the home team in March.

March 2016 was not good for Germany's sports cars, as two of the best, the Audi TT and Porsche 911, were outsold by the Ford Mustang in their home market.

The 4,000-unit allotment of 2016 Mustangs was dominated by V8 engines and hardtop coupes, which represented close to 90 percent of the orders.

Includes Edge, Lincoln MKX, and 2016 Mustang

Ford is issuing three, new recalls for a total of 130,801 vehicles in North America. The campaigns cover some examples of the Edge, Lincoln MKX, 2016 Mustang, and E-Series models.

Through the first six months of 2015, the Ford Mustang is the world's best-selling sports car, and that's before it launches in right-hand-drive markets.

Ford UK says that 80 percent of Mustang buyers over there have chosen the coupe, and 70 percent of them have ordered the 410-hp V8 instead of the EcoBoost.

Ford is updating the Mustang for the 2016 model year with new hood-vent turn signals, Sync 3 infotainment system and a host of new trim and options packages.
