The Autoblog readership and commentariat is a dedicated, vocal and passionate group. Every day (almost every hour of every day) we hear from you in the form of tips, emails and, of course, in direct comments to the stories that we publish. While we don't have the ability to respond to each and every one of you individually, rest assured that your messages don't just go out into the void.

A happy case in point is the very Comments section that you use to make yourselves heard from post to post. For quite some time now we've received a lot of requests for improved and expanded functionality, and are now happy to report that our all-new commenting system is live.

So, what can you do with the new Comments?

For starters, we'd like to draw your attention to the Edit button at the top right. Finally you've got the ability to quickly fix a typo, clarify a point or completely change your mind. The new What You See Is What You Get-style editor allows you to enliven your post with italics, bold characters, underlining and, best of all, real live links. You can also sort comments on any post by Best, New and Old. Of course, you can still up vote comments you love, or down vote those you can't stand.

Thanks again for keeping the comments flowing, Autoblog readers – we look forward to a better dialogue than ever before in the time to come.

I'm reporting this comment as:

Reported comments and users are reviewed by Autoblog staff 24 hours a day, seven days a week to determine whether they violate Community Guideline. Accounts are penalized for Community Guidelines violations and serious or repeated violations can lead to account termination.

I very much think that comments should be sorted by "New" as the default, especially since so few comments fit on one screen. "Best" is good to have as an option, especially a day or two later when people are mostly done commenting, but shouldn't be the default while a story is active.

On the contrary, I much prefer "Old" as my default.  I prefer to se the comments in the order they were entered, makes it much easier/cleaner to read.

I like that I at least have that option now, for a little while there, all you could select was "New" or "Best".

      About time!

Now how fixing the log-in "remember me" feature. Signing in, sometimes several times a day, really sucks...

And how about an iPad-specific app too!

Agreed. The iPhone version is super lame on the iPad.

Disabled cookies?  Do you have maleware protection software that might be deleting cookies?  Using "Incognito mode?

I have to agree.  The iphone app is awful.  Especially on the ipad.  My biggest beef is The By The Numbers Charts still don't work.  You can't scroll them.

Edit button was the best one.... Thanks guys

      Edit: Even more thanks.

Is this the "new" comment section people were crying about like a couple of weeks ago. Looks the same to me except with a edit button I suppose.

It still is kinda clumsy, now takes up more space (I bet it's because of tablet functionality) and the login is still a pain i.t.a. but the editing functionality is nice.

Cool, this is a nice improvement :)

Would it kill you to use higher contrast black text instead of gray-on-gray, and default the comments to 'new' instead of 'best?'

I agree that going with 3rd-party commenting system would make more sense. On the other hand I'm glad you didn't choose Facebook.

This is the equivalent of sharpening the crayons in the special-Ed class.

        Oh, that's harsh.

How can anyone expect me to stay inside the lines to graduate using this blunt crayola... oh wait, thanks. This is much better.
