Hyundai Veloster Rally Car – Click above for high-res image gallery

Just a little over a month after it was introduced at the Chicago Auto Show, the Hyundai Veloster Rally Car made its competition debut at the Global Rally Championship this past week.

Flying under the Rhys Millen Racing banner, which also works with Hyundai in Formula Drift and for the Pikes Peak Hill climb, a duo of Veloster rally cars managed to make it through the entire weekend trouble free – something that couldn't be said for some of the more established teams. Hyundai's team did experience some teething problems with tire compounds and gear ratio selections, but they plan to rectify those issues for the next round of RallyCross next month in Snoqualmie, WA.

We got up close and personal with Millen's Veloster at the event, and came away with plenty of photos for your visual enjoyment. Check out the gallery below for a closer look at the 500-horsepower, 2,600-pound, all-wheel-drive, carbon fiber rocket ship.

If only they made a production version. Sadly, itll be 130hp FWD and only come in lime green.

The current version is 138 hp, which isn't bad against the the modest curb weight. It also has a six-speed, so probably an entertaining drive. A turbo is expected to arrive soon, which should help a lot.

      Hooray for Hyundai fanboys!

This thing should compete well, much unlike the Accent that Hyundai fielded in the WRC many years back.

I actually really like the 3 door idea.

I really like this car (even the stock version) and read today that a turbo-version will join the 138-hp car shortly. That should be fun(!).

I think 500hp and carbon fiber should be an option. Hyundai: do this, and there's an instant hit. I mean, how dangerous can 500hp be if you have a rollcage? ;)

Wonder what box I check at the dealership to order this version.
That should be a quite expensive option.

Best part is that even the most expensively kitted Hyundai will still be like 400 bucks. =D

Hyundai just doesn't stop, they keep making more and more attractive products. Captain Obvious moment I know.
