BMW 6 Series Coupe Concept – Click above for high-res image gallery

Word has it that BMW is planning to unveil the next 6 Series coupe at the upcoming Shanghai Motor Show in April. According the Dutch arm of AutoWeek, it only makes since for the big two door to take a bow this spring since the concept version debuted at the 2010 Pairs Motor Show last fall. Given that we've seen more than a few spy photos crop up recently, the prediction would seem spot-on.

The report says that buyers can first expect to get their hands on the coupe in either 640i or 650i variants with additional models showing up later down the line. But that's not the most interesting bit of news to pop up.

AutoWeek is also reporting that BMW is currently slaving away on a sedan version of the 6 Series. Supposedly, the car would make use of the same coupe body lines as its two-door brethren. Such a vehicle would allow BMW to tango with the ever-popular Mercedes-Benz CLS, but we have to wonder if there's room in the Roundel's stable for yet another sedan.

Compared to the E24, the modern 6 series is and has been, a pig. The latest facelift helped it's bottom-feeder front-end but it's still a far cry from the classic, elegant shape from which it's supposedly derived. No thanks.

Shameful use of the 6 series badge. I mean it looks better than other current BMW's, but go on Flickr and type in e24 BMW. THAT is a real BMW 6 series.

Much better than the previous 6, but that dash / console connector looks like some strange alien deformity. Nice detailing on the door panels though...still too big and fat however

I'm not feeling BMW's new designs, the 5 and 7 series look nice but overall i dont agree with them. 5 series is like a 3 series and the new 3 series is suppose to look more in line with the 5 series anyway it's almost like audi again. At this rate all lexus has to do is keep itself out of this design mess these days with some of these german guys and they'll get sales easy.

but no really Lexus make the IS/ISF more aggressive and sporty hell even basing it off the ft-86 imho would be killer.

It makes "sense" to use the correct word :)

So how much does the new 6 weigh? 8000 lbs?

That is one sexy looking car, especially from the side. It has all the elements of beautiful design. It's long, sleek, elegant, and only has two doors. It's a welcome departure from all of this bloated, blocky crap that many buyers supposedly find attractive.

Looks are debatable, but this BMW is too big in every direction to be practical in normal life. It's the size of an S-Class!!

Now that you mention the headlights, I can't stop looking at them.

The shape is like the classic sharknose 635, but those headlights just don't match - too aero laid-back.

I think if the headlights helped lead into the body crease, from the grille notch, it might be better.

indeed, pretty nice car, but strange front lights.
i gues it's to new to judge untill seen in RL.
but the interior looks very good, different

After looking at the pics I can just say WOW. That is a gorgeous car. The interior detail is incredible.

I like it a lot but I miss the styling of the old one, the old 6 series styling was a bit more raw in character.
I liked Chris Bangle's 'Shock & Awe' styling on the old BMW's( though I am not sure he did the old 6 series) I think the new generation are a little bit to restrained.
I've driven a friends 650 convertible which is fun, so if the new one drives as well BMW are on to a winner.

Nice. I hope they're done with all that funky styling of the past few years.
