Aston Martin offering Sirius Radio with lifetime subscription

Beginning this August, Aston Martin V8 Vantage and DB9 buyers will start getting Sirius - as in Sirius Satellite Radio. It will be available as a factory installed option, and better yet - drumroll please - it will come with a lifetime subscription to the service. That would normally run you about $500. Maybe not a huge deal on a six-figure automobile, but every little bit counts, right? And you'll also never worry about that $12.95 monthly bill should your fortunes ever reverse. It's a nice little touch that might push some buyers into pulling the trigger, but will more likely come as a pleasant surprise when they find out about the bonus in the deal.

Yeah... of course, Mini does as well, which makes this whole news story somewhat less impressive.

Moves like this should be standard on luxury/hi-end cars. Even if the owner doesn't care at the dealer...when they are stuck in traffic and forgot their CDs/iPod, they would probably be thanking for this touch.

I don't understand: which life?
The car's?
The Owner's?
Or Sirius/ XM's?

Yeah, but if your fortunes reverse, you won't be able to afford the maintenance on the Aston anyway.

It's probably the life of the radio. Each receiver requires separate activation and subscription fees...

The price for the optional Sirius installation in an '08 Aston is - another drumroll, please - $1250. That isn't exactly a bargain, since Ford (which presumably paid for development of the installation) will put Sirius in a mass-market car like the Fusion for $200. $200 + $500 = $700, but the other $550 presumably represents the cost of developing the Sirius installation. Aston is not a charity, especially now that it's independent of Ford, and it had to spread the cost of development over a really small number of cars, those Astons coming to the US that have the Sirius option selected. The per-car cost might be even more except that there's probably a Sirius subsidy in there.
I have an '08 Vantage V8 on order (October production, November/December delivery) and I ordered Sirius for it - and I'm not even a Howard fan.

@Duane Phillips, an '08 vantage V8 - that is wicked. i just got a sportster 4 installed in my BMW 325i and i've got to say that it does make my 35-minute commute to work more enjoyable; i got it off http://www.sirius.com/freeradio dirt cheap too...

I enjoyed reading this article about Sirius radio's lifetime subscription. Maybe I will consider it.
