Photo tour of Phaeton factory

Last February one of the guys over at VW Vortex visited the Transparent Factory in Dresden, Germany where the VW Phaeton is built. We thought we’d mark the occasion of the Phaeton’s withdrawal from North America with his virtual photo tour of the factory to see how the grandest of all Volkswagens is built. The factory itself is stunning, the architecture being comprised mainly of glass walls supported by an exposed stainless steel structure and hard wooden “basketball court” type floors. It truly is the cleanest factory we have ever seen and it gives one a new respect for the Phaeton, a car that North American critics loved to pan but has been pretty well received in Europe where it will continue to be sold.
Some of our favorite pics are after the jump…

Now wood floors in my garage don't seem like such a bad idea...
My favorite: The lift-turn-and-flip mechanism. I want one in my garage!

Holy! What are they going to do with that place when they stop selling the car altogether?

Make Bentley's in it, it's already planned.

FYI, the only place that this car has trouble is here, everywhere else in the world worries about value, but Amuricans just want the name, or some damn RV (read SUV).

A big bingo for Koba.
If that vehicle had a Mercedes, Lexus, or BMW emblem on it - it would have been a stellar success. Too bad for America. It is/was and awesome vehicle. I drove both the 12 cyl and the 8 cyl for a total of more than 20,000 miles and can tell you first hand.

I never understood why someone would buy a 70k car from a dealer that was also selling 20k Beatles to snot nosed kids.
