Transcript- At the 2018 New York Auto Show Subaru rolled out the fifth-generation Forester, their smallest crossover right now. But cool thing about it, they brought all five generations of Forester, including this nice teal gen 1.
- And so Subaru has been making, made this Forester from 1998 on. This is a first-generation vehicle. And really, you know, it's my belief that the crossover craze is really due to the fact that Subaru was able to convince Americans that this was a crossover, not what it really is, which is an Impreza wagon. I mean this is really just a Subaru Impreza wagon with a slightly different body. It's not significantly taller although I think it had a tiny bit of a suspension height increase. But, I mean, otherwise, really under the skin, it's just an Impreza Outback Sport with a little more cargo room.
So, you know, it's kind of neat to see it and how compact, petite, but also space-efficient it was at the time. Compared to modern, you know, because safety standards have increased, the vehicles have gotten a lot bigger. So you can't quite have it, this small vehicle be this airy and cargo-efficient inside anymore. But even so, it's kind of cool to see where the crossover craze came from.
- Yeah, you look at something like this and like something like the late 90s original Toyota RAV4 or Honda CR-V. They were just honest little vehicles. There was no fuss about them. They did what they did well. They were space-efficient, cheap, and relatively reliable. But--
