Nissan is adding $620 to the base price of its Rogue Sport for 2019, throwing in its new Rear Door Alert technology and an updated sound system as standard, offering a new color option and expanding availability of its ProPilot Assist semi- autonomous driving and Safety Shield 360 safety technologies.

The 2019 version of the compact crossover starts at $23,235, including destination, for the Rogue Sport S in front-wheel drive. The starting price climbs to $30,305 for the SL trim in all-wheel drive. The new models, offered in three trim levels including the mid-grade SV, are now on sale at dealers.

The Rogue Sport, sold as the Qashqai in other markets including Canada, is a slightly smaller and more affordable version of Nissan's best-selling Rogue crossover, and it carries on many of the latter's design and utility features. The 2019 model features the same 2.0-liter inline-four engine that makes 141 horsepower and 147 pound-feet of torque as before.

It comes standard with the mom-designed Rear Door Alert technology, which activates the horn and other notifications when the system detects the rear door opened before the engine started but wasn't re-opened after shutting down, meant to remind drivers not to leave small children or pets inside cars unattended. Also standard are a rearview monitor, a Bluetooth phone and infotainment system that features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, plus an available nine-speaker Bose audio system. And finally, there's a new exterior color, Scarlet Ember Tintcoat, added to the list of choices.

For 2019, Nissan is making the ProPilot Assist, which provides assistance with things like steering and acceleration and braking on highways, standard on the SL and optional on the SV. The Safety Shield 360 technology is standard on both the SV and SL grades and includes features like automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning and high-beam assist.

Nissan doesn't break out sales for the Rogue Sport but instead lumps them together with the Rogue, the year-to-date sales of which through October were up 3.2 percent to 337,727.
