Queensland, Australia gov't declines to pass free registration for hybrids

In the Australian state of Queensland, the majority party in the parliament has voted down a proposal to allow for free vehicle registration for hybrids. Opposition party member Rosemary Menkens had submitted the bill that would have provided an incentive for Australians to drive the more-efficient vehicles. Australia has been struggling of late with trying to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Larger, rear-wheel drive cars have remained popular Down Under and Australians apparently need a push to move to higher mileage cars. They won't get it in Queensland.
