Fiends sample Superformance Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe, GT40 MKI

Autofiends scribe and Autoblog Sunday Drive alumni, Jonny Lieberman, is a lucky SOB. Not only did he get the chance to drive the Superformance replica of the Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe, but he snagged some wheel time in a thoroughly uncivilized MKI GT40 powered by a fuel-injected Roush 427 IR motor... putting out 500 hp... to the wheels. The Daytona Coupe is even more devilishly delectable, with 556 hp and 553 lb.-ft. of torque motivating the 3,000-pound coupe. If there was a recipe for our demise, it would look, sound and drive something like that. Needless to say, we're jealous, but that shouldn't stop you from reading the twofer review and ogling the drool-worthy pics by our very own Drew Phillips.

The original versions of both of these cars are on top of my list of favorite cars of all time. However I am not Jay Leno or the Sultan of Brunei, so getting an original Cobra Daytona or GT40 is out of the picture.
These replicas give me hope though, even though they themselves are not cheap. And they have modern running gear as well, making them technically superior (but possibly emotionally inferior) to the originals.
Damn I really, really wish I had the money to buy these. I may knock over a bank within the next several days. Hell I may just have to steal the cars themselves. If you see a police chase of a car crazy lunatic running from the cops in a Cobra Daytona or GT40, its probably me.

This would be great, if I commuted from Utah to Montana.

I think the replicas are almost more rewarding than the originals. You don't have to worry about crashing a 400,000 dollar car- just a 120,000 dollar one haha.

You're totally right. To me, having one I dont have to baby is worth the lack of pedigree.
Your price comparison is actually an understatement.
They only made 6 Daytona coupes, and only like 4 (maybe 5) have survived. So if you manage to find an original for sale... ever.. and it's only $400,000 you've found an amazing bargain. Add another "0" to that number and you'll be closer to the real value.
Now $125K seems dirt cheap!

Haha yeah...I was thinking more like a regular cobra but the original Daytona Coupe and GT40 are almost priceless.

Didn't, or shouldn't someone say Factory 5? If you want an "affordable" Daytona, look no further! I know that's my dream anyway. Well, the GT40 is, but the Daytona's a real close 2nd and they don't make a GT40 kit.

Oh but they make the ever so awesome GTM.

And the GTM is more affordable.

Isn't this the mob that made the Daytona that Peter Brock died in?

Are you asking because you don't know (Brock's was a Superformance, so yes) or to put people off liking it because they could crash and die?
I'm assuming if he drove it, he approved of it...seeing as he designed the original and all.
