Poll: Chrysler Imperial Concept - Fabulous or Unfortunate?

We found one of the most polarizing concepts at this year’s Detroit auto show to be the Chrysler Imperial Concept. Joel reported that many journalists have praised the concept, although this one likens the large sedan to a long wheelbase London taxi. Many of you have referred to it as the poor man’s Rolls Royce Phantom. So we put the question to you, the readers, to find out if the public really is split down the middle on this question: is the Imperial Concept a hit or miss for Chrysler?

You have to admit Chrysler is starting to do their homework. After two decades of "welcome to the softer side of Sears", an automobile manufacturer and perhaps even some men in a America are finding their spines once more. You look at the Prowler, 300c, Crossfire, PT Cruiser and now the Imperial. This trend started to a degree with their Ram Charger line, but they understand its men that love cars and the vast vast majority of women use them for only for transportation.
Like'm, love'm or leave'm, Chrysler is touching the pulse of millions of decades deprived, "O.K. honey, let's buy a Camary males".
My hat's off to them!

Ok, The 300M has its qualities and changed the market situation for Chrysler. But how long are they going to go with just copying old design elements from the early century? While the pre-Chrysler-Daimler products were becoming generic in their style and execution, at least they had elements that showed creative design ideas to address problems. Its time for Chrysler to parley its design themes into something modern and relevant to todays ascetics!

It looks a lot like a 1980's Thunderbird/Cougar to me.

Shameless Rolls Royce Phantom rip-off... do something original (like the fabulous 300C) instead!

I see nothing wrong with a rip offof something like the phantom. Who cares if your car is "ripped off" from something that 99% of people will never own? What if Chrysler made a Ferarri rip off for 1/5 the cost?
The car does look a whole lot better in other angles/pictures. Autoblog folks, you might want to post a few other shots of the Imperial.

I am a 35 y/o male and love the Imperial concept. I would certainly consider giving up my BMW X3 for it. It has great lines and lots of style, something that is lacking in todays cars. The only issue I have with it is it's size, I would like the same style in a bit smaller package. I can't figure out why it is not winning this poll.

The only way I'd buy one is if Eva Longoria came with it.

The midsection isn't bad...it's just the front and rear that are hideous. This thing reminds me of the Mohs Safarikar...see below:

I think the color is what turns me off the most, silver or black.. or anything would have been better than that brown. It makes it look like something out of the 70's, which is an era none of the big 3 want to remind people of. A slightly different headlight treatment is the only mechanical bit I can complain about but otherwise it's great.

I'm in the minority here, but I like this car. I think they should build it. I mean, the front end needs work, but at least it's a hell of a lot better than the front end of the car it's supposedly ripping off!

I think the car is 90% there, ready to go. Yes the front end needs some work, but that's about it! You have to look at the market this thing is targeted at - not everyone wants a sports sedan that looks like the hottest import! I'm old enough to remember the '50s Imperials, and this car is much better at carrying on that nameplate than the crap that Iaccoa put on us (a stretched K-car with a vinyl roof and an Imperial nameplate). And yes, get rid of that sh***tasia brown color!

It's a lumbering, overwrought, derivative abomination that will only be purchased by schmucks with more money than taste.
So, it will be a smash sales hit for DCX here in the U.S.

Overall the asthetics of the vehicle look promising even if it is a "Phantom rip off". What makes me say unfortunate in the poll, however, is that this car is HUGE. Were not talking like A8L sedan huge (awesome car by the way)...were talking like Excursion huge....Mack Truck Huge...etc... Keep the style but give it a big time diet and you will have a car slotted above the 300C that should sell well to American Business people that like German size and sophistication but in an American Package.
