Overview

The X1 joined BMW's Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) lineup with a fresh interpretation of form meets function in the premium compact segment, blending unique styling, responsive driving dynamics and adaptable interior space. The globally-successful X1 enters its second generation for the 2016 model year. The X1 is available in two models: the X1 sDrive28i (front-wheel drive) and xDrive28i (all-wheel drive). Both are powered by BMW's new 228-hp 2.0-liter TwinPower turbo inline four-cylinder engine, mated to a revised eight-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode and auto start/stop function. Every X1 features a power liftgate, 18-inch aluminum wheels, LED daytime running lights, fog lights, leatherette upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, Bluetooth wireless connectivity/audio streaming and a USB port; for 2017, the iDrive operating system now boasts a 6.5-inch LCD center screen. Safety-related equipment includes stability control with rollover sensor and integrated traction control, anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist, and eight airbags. Rear parking sensors and a rearview camera are also available, while a new Driving Assistant Plus package offers high-beam assist, speed limit info and Active Driving Assistant (including lane departure warning, forward collision mitigation and pedestrian detection). The BMW X1 is redesigned for 2016. All models are now powered by a new 228-horsepower engine and feature revised exterior/interior styling, along with increased cargo and passenger capacity and a broader spectrum of safety technologies.
