Honda to build compression-ignition hybrid?

Well, this is an interesting week for Honda engine news. Not only is the company pursuing diesels for the US market, but it's also looking at combining a HCCI engine with hybrid technology. Such a combination is said to improve the economy of a hybrid vehicle by up to 30%, and without the emission issues of oil-burners. No word yet on how the Motor Company has overcome problems with controlling the timing of ignition events in such an engine, but hopefully we'll learn more soon. A prototype may be publicly unveiled as soon as next year.
