Like Saturn before it, Scion was a bold idea that ultimately wasn't fully supported by its parent brand, Toyota. The idea was sound: funky, youth-oriented cars built with Toyota quality but without any stodgy brand associations. No-haggle pricing that was low enough to attract buyers, with loads of dealer customization options, seemed like a sure bet. And the xB, a boxy subcompact crossover with serious attitude, was a hit. But the xA didn't capture the imagination in the same way, nor did the tC coupe or the iQ microcar. The xD had even less youth appeal, and by 2010 sales volumes were dropping precipitously. It wasn't until the introduction of the FR-S in 2013 that Scion again had a car to crow about again, but by then the damage had been done. In August 2016, the remaining Scion models were folded into the Toyota brand: the FR-S became the Toyota 86, the iA became the Yaris iA and the iM became the Corolla iM.
