South Korea is an industrial powerhouse, and Kia Motors is an automotive powerhouse. It’s the second largest carmaker in that country, after Hyundai, and it produces a full range of SUVs, sedans, hatchbacks and crossovers. The company started out building bicycles and small motorcycles (a lot like Honda, incidentally) before turning to consumer cars in the mid-1980s. A partnership with Ford led to some Kia cars, such as the Ford Aspire, being sold in the U.S. before Kia’s official introduction here. In 1992, Kia introduced the Sephia to the U.S. In 1998, Kia was sold to Hyundai. Kia’s flagship vehicle is the K900 sedan, complemented by the sporty Kia Stinger.
