HUMMER Vehicles
Hummer might have died as a GM brand, but it was born out of a military contract to AMCâs AM General division for a high-mobility, multipurpose vehicle (HMMV, or âHum-Veeâ). AM General sold a civilian version as the Hummer starting in 1992. In 1999, GM purchased the company and produced the (relatively) smaller H2 and H3 models off of unrelated GM truck platforms, while the Hummer (renamed H1) was sold until 2006. The economic downturn in 2008 spelled the end of the brand, which was shuttered after failing to find a buyer.
