Plymouth was Chrysler’s affordable, mass-market brand until it was shuttered in 2001. Its heyday was the 1960s, with the original Barracuda actually starting the pony-car trend just before the vastly more popular Mustang. The Hemi-powered muscle cars that followed included the GTX and the Road Runner. The striking Prowler roadster was going to breathe new life into the brand, having gone a bit stagnant in the 1980s and early 1990s, and the PT Cruiser was originally going to have been sold as a Plymouth. That certainly would have been a shot in the arm for the brand, but unfortunately, Plymouth was a casualty of the merger that created DaimlerChyrsler. The last year for the brand was 2001.
