Did you say the Ford F-150? Not so fast. According to the J.D. Power Information Network (via our friends at <a href="http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2009/07/beyond-the-numbers-2009-year-to-date-sales-figures-for-fullsize-pickups.html">PickupTrucks.com</a>), General Motors sold more Chevy Silverado 1500 pickups (119,959 units) in June that Ford sold F-150s (107,778 units), and that's not a fluke. <br /><br />It seems that the automakers don't actually break out the sales of each pickup line when reporting overall figures, so Ford lumps all F-Series (F-150, F-250, F-350...) sales together when it correctly lays claim to the title of Best-Selling Pickup Line in America. Ford's Super Duty series commands nearly 50-percent of the HD pickup market, which puts the Blue Oval on top of the overall sales race.<br /><br />Interestingly, all three American automakers picked up full-size pickup market share at the expense of Nissan and especially Toyota, which saw sales of its Tundra plummet from 76,516 units to just 36,106 units in June of 2009 compared to one year ago. <a href="http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2009/07/beyond-the-numbers-2009-year-to-date-sales-figures-for-fullsize-pickups.html">Click here</a> for the full breakdown of full-size truck sales data.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2009/07/beyond-the-numbers-2009-year-to-date-sales-figures-for-fullsize-pickups.html">PickupTrucks.com</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/08/numbers-dont-lie-silverado-beats-out-f-150-as-best-selling-lig/">Numbers Don't Lie: Silverado beats out F-150 as America's best-selling light-duty pickup</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 08 Jul 2009 19:30:00 EST. <div align="center"><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;"><small>2010 Lexus IS250 C and IS350 C - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></span><br /></div>
<br />Lexus has high hopes for its new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/18/first-drive-2010-lexus-is250-c-and-is350-c/">IS250 C and IS350 C convertibles</a>, and early returns give the Japanese automakers cause for optimism.<em> Car and Driver</em> is reporting that Toyota's upscale division will build a droptop version of its bonkers IS F sports sedan, and plans for that model are surely buttressed by brisk initial sales of the new IS convertible models.<em> Wards Automotive </em>says that IS250 C and IS350 C folding hardtop convertibles are being picked up faster than they can be made, prompting Toyota to increase production at its Kyushu plant in Japan to 1,200 units per month. The ISC is so hot in the Northeast that the region will begin receiving 225 units per month.<br /><br />Scott Wracher, general manager of the brand's eastern area, says 85% of the convertible IS models will have the 204 hp, 2.5-liter V6, while only 15% will have the more potent 306 hp 3.5-liter V6. The manual transmission 250C stickers at $38,480, and $43,940 will net you the auto transmission-equipped IS 350 C (plus $875 for destination). The IS convertibles also have a lengthy list of expensive options, which will easily push the MSRP up to (and over) $50,000.<br /><br />In related news, C&amp;D's sources suggest that hopes for a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/13/leakage-lexus-lf-a-convertible/">roadster version</a> of the on-again/off-again LF-A supercar (<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/27/tokyo-preview-550-hp-218-mph-lexus-lf-a-coming-this-year/">currently 'on again</a>,' for those keeping tabs) are increasingly unlikely.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-lexus-is250-c-and-is350-c-first-drive/">First Drive: 2010 Lexus IS250 C and IS350 C</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-lexus-is250-c-and-is350-c-first-drive/2020344/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/isc_fd_ab002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-lexus-is250-c-and-is350-c-first-drive/2020324/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/isc_fd_ab003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-lexus-is250-c-and-is350-c-first-drive/2020345/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/isc_fd_ab001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-lexus-is250-c-and-is350-c-first-drive/2020325/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/isc_fd_ab004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-lexus-is250-c-and-is350-c-first-drive/2020340/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/isc_fd_ab005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><strong style="font-style: italic;"><small>Photos copyright (C)2009 Jonathon Ramsey / Weblogs, Inc</small></strong><br />[Sources: <a href="http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/hot_lists/high_performance/japanese_performance/lexus_to_produce_is_f_convertible_sc_to_get_softtop_successor_car_news">Car and Driver</a>; <a href="http://wardsauto.com/ar/orders_lexus_outpacing_090706/">Wards Automotive</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/08/report-early-lexus-is-c-orders-outstripping-supply/">REPORTS: Lexus to build IS F convertible; existing IS droptops selling ahead of supply</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 08 Jul 2009 16:29:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Toyota Land Cruiser Prado spy shots -- Click above for image gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />A tipster in the Middle East has sent pics of what looks to be the area's next Toyota Land Cruiser Prado (known as the Lexus GX stateside). If it is the next version of the SUV, Toyota has gone for a massaging routine as opposed to brute force change. A reshaped front fascia contains swoopier headlights, a vertical-bar grille <a href="http://www.toyota.com.au/prado/gallery/images">similar to that of the Australian model</a>), and a raised lower bumper detail. The changes are minimal out back, with more pronounced taillamps and a unique U-shaped chrome taillamp garnish.<br /><br />As the vehicle seen here is thought to be based on the same platform as the current model, it isn't clear if this is the same chassis that is expected to underpin America's next Toyota <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/09/despite-market-shift-toyota-confirms-next-4runner-in-developmen/">4Runner</a>/<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/19/rumormill-new-lexus-gx-foretold-for-fall/">GX expected this Fall</a>. In the Gulf region, Al Motor News figures that the predecessor's Toyota engines will carry over: a 2.7-liter four-cylinder and a 4.0-liter V6. The Gulf-market Lexus is also expected to get a 4.6-liter V8 engine option with 310 horsepower. <br /><br />These shots were apparently taken at a dealer inventory lot, so it is assumed the Prado will be shown officially in the not-too-distant future. You can get a sneak preview for yourself in the gallery of photos below. <em>Hat tip to Ebraheem!</em><br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-2010-toyota-prado-landcruiser/">Spy Shots: 2010 Toyota Prado/Landcruiser</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-2010-toyota-prado-landcruiser/2131748/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/01_2010_toyota_prado_lc_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-2010-toyota-prado-landcruiser/2131749/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/02_2010_toyota_prado_lc_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-2010-toyota-prado-landcruiser/2131750/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/03_2010_toyota_prado_lc_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-2010-toyota-prado-landcruiser/2131751/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/04_2010_toyota_prado_lc_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-2010-toyota-prado-landcruiser/2131752/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/05_2010_toyota_prado_lc_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.almotornews.com/index.php?mod=article&amp;cat=News&amp;article=317">Al Motor News</a>]<br /><a target="_blank" href="http://www.almotornews.com/index.php?mod=article&amp;cat=News&amp;article=317"></a><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/08/spy-shots-next-toyota-landcruiser-prado-lexus-gx-caught-in-the/">Spy Shots: Next Toyota Landcruiser Prado/Lexus GX caught in the Middle East?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 08 Jul 2009 12:32:00 EST. <br />Have you ever had the feeling that the service guy at your local dealership is rummaging through your things? Perhaps even a few quarters are missing. A guy named Jason knows all too well about dealership employees going through his stuff - on two different occasions, Jason noticed that things were missing from his Toyota Tundra after getting it serviced at Hampton Toyota of Lafayette. One time, over $10 in quarters were reportedly stolen, and the next time, Jason says about half his quarters were gone.<br /><br />After complaining about his problems to dealership management, he received no response. So he rigged a digital video camera to the passenger side door and recorded his Tundra's next service appointment. What he saw from the video footage was priceless. In one video clip, the technician rummages through his pills, even licking the medicine's residue on his hand. He also takes some quarters from the truck. Videos that were later removed from YouTube reportedly shows one man watching what sounds like pornography on a diagnostic computer. <br /><br />Instead of again complaining to dealership management, this time Jason took the DVD to the local media, and sent a copy to the owner of the dealership, <a href="http://consumerist.com/5308464/video-toyota-employees-taped-stealing-from-watching-porn-in-customers-truck">along with a letter</a> detailing what happened to him. Consumerist reports that the dealer's owner immediately fired the three workers caught on video, along with the service manager that ignored his complaints. Jason also received an extended warranty on his truck for his troubles. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/07/video-toyota-dealer-employees-caught-snooping-through-customer/">Hit the jump</a> to view the videos showing the technician rummaging through Jason's things. <em>Hat tip to FaLex!</em><br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://consumerist.com/5308464/video-toyota-employees-taped-stealing-from-watching-porn-in-customers-truck">Consumerist</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/07/video-toyota-dealer-employees-caught-snooping-through-customer/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>VIDEO: Toyota dealer employees caught snooping through customer vehicle, watching porn</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/07/video-toyota-dealer-employees-caught-snooping-through-customer/">VIDEO: Toyota dealer employees caught snooping through customer vehicle, watching porn</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 07 Jul 2009 19:28:00 EST. The latest head to roll is the Formula 1 race at Fuji Speedway, Toyota's own circuit. Opened in 1965 and host of the Japanese Grand Prix for the first time in 1976, Formula 1 returned to Fuji in 2007 and 2008, and was due again in 2010. <br /><br />In spite of that, Toyota deemed the $20-to-$30 million dollars necessary to hold a Grand Prix -- a mere fraction of the money it spends on its F1 team - couldn't be justified. Said Hiroaki Kato, president of Fuji Speedway (above), trading conditions have made the race "extremely difficult." <br /><br />This year's Japanese GP will be held at Honda's Suzuka as scheduled, but next year's race will need to be decided on. Honda has said it has no idea where the 2010 race will be held.<br /><br />[Source: AFP via <a href="http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5jPT66Xujoe9f4Kou2_iailtVfDMA">Google</a> | Image: Yoshikazu Tsuno/Getty]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/07/report-cost-cutting-leads-toyota-to-cease-hosting-japanese-gran/">REPORT: Cost cutting leads Toyota to cease hosting Japanese Grand Prix</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 07 Jul 2009 14:00:00 EST. Toyota Motor Corp. will reportedly spend the next three months retooling in order to build its Sequoia and Highlander SUVs on the same line (last year, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/12/toyota-to-start-building-highlander-in-u-s-six-months-early/">automaker canceled plans</a> to manufacture the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/02/27/official-toyota-to-build-highlanders-in-mississippi/">Highlander in a new plant slated for Mississippi</a>).<br /><br />Toyota also has no comment about the recent rumors that it had entered talks with General Motors about buying out General Motors's share in the New United Motor Manufacturing Inc. (NUMMI) venture after the U.S. automaker announced last week that it was <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/29/after-25-years-gm-ditches-nummi-tie-up-with-toyota-as-part-of-b/">abandoning its 50 percent stake</a> in the partnership. Toyota is currently negotiating with the United Auto Workers to adjust labor rates at the Fremont, California, operation. According to reports, the plant could shut down if those talks go sour.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autonews.com/article/20090706/ANA02/907069990/1176">Automotive News</a>, subs. req'd]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/07/toyota-bankrolling-500-million-into-indiana-plant-no-comment-o/">REPORT: Toyota bankrolling $500 million into Indiana plant; no comment on NUMMI</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 07 Jul 2009 11:00:00 EST. <br />Ever notice that you your bladder seems to shrink when its cold outside? Apparently, <a href="http://www.hybridcars.com/forums/2008-prius-fuel-tank-capacity.html">the Toyota Prius feels your pain</a>, and while we don't have any good solutions to report for your own personal problems, Toyota has found an easy fix for its hybrid. Unlike previous generations of Toyota's fuel saver, the new 2010 model won't have an underperforming bladder when it's cold outside.<br /><br />Since its introduction back in 2001, Toyota has equipped the Prius with a synthetic fuel tank bladder that collapsed as gasoline was slowly pumped out of the tank and into the engine. Due to complaints that the last-gen car wasn't able to take its full 11.9 gallon fuel allotment whenever the temperature was below 70-degrees, the third-generation Prius comes equipped with a more conventional rigid fuel tank made from lightweight resin. In order to retain its coveted low-emissions rating in California, the latest Prius also reportedly features an improved vapor-recovery system that will help reduce hydrocarbon emissions.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/photos/2010-toyota-prius-4/">2010 Toyota Prius</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/photos/2010-toyota-prius-4/1285199/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/01/01_2010_toyota_prius_abg_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/photos/2010-toyota-prius-4/1285203/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/01/02_2010_toyota_prius_abg_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/photos/2010-toyota-prius-4/1285222/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/01/03_2010_toyota_prius_abg_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/photos/2010-toyota-prius-4/1285223/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/01/04_2010_toyota_prius_abg_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/photos/2010-toyota-prius-4/1285224/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/01/05_2010_toyota_prius_abg_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/chi-tc-biz-trans-priustank-0701-jul06,0,6502061.story">Chicago Tribune</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/06/report-2010-toyota-prius-ditches-incredible-shrinking-gas-tank/">REPORT: 2010 Toyota Prius ditches Incredible Shrinking Gas Tank for conventional unit</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 06 Jul 2009 17:58:00 EST. <br />In any game of chicken, it's all about who flinches first. Ever since its first running in 1963, the Japanese Grand Prix has bounced between Fuji Speedway and Suzuka Circuit, the former dominating in the '60s and '70s before the latter got the exclusive in the late-'80s through 2006, at which point Fuji took over again. The rivalry is about more than just the tracks, though: With Toyota owning Fuji and arch-rival Honda owning Suzuka, the back-and-forth has become something of a turf war between the country's automotive powerhouses. <br /><br />Two years ago, the two tracks worked out a deal that would have the race alternating year to year, sort of like Germany's arrangement between Hockenheim and the N&uuml;rburgring. However, emerging reports suggest that tightening belts at Toyota could spell trouble for Fuji Speedway. The costs of hosting a Formula 1 grand prix event continue to escalate, and those costs may be harder to justify for the cash-strapped auto giant - especially if ticket sales don't cover the budget. Honda is likely in no better a financial situation, as evidenced by their unfortunate withdrawal from the sport. But if Toyota flinches first, Honda might win the race... in one sense or another.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en/headlines/news/detail/090701132311.shtml">F1-Live</a> | Image: Mark Thompson/Getty]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/04/toyota-woes-spell-trouble-for-fuji-speedway/">REPORT: Toyota woes spell trouble for Fuji Speedway</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 04 Jul 2009 15:19:00 EST. Ford, General Motors, Chrysler, Toyota, Honda, and Nissan have put the kibosh on rolling out more oil burners due to cost and perception issues. <br /><br />Toyota's obviously on a hybrid run and doesn't want to expel the effort or expense of investing in diesel for the American market -- and having to overcome America's dirty diesel perceptions. The others, as mass market manufacturers, simply need more justification for the cost and complexity of oilburners in order to make the case for consumers to spend more.<br /><br />Additionally, diesel's benefits are weighted differently according to EPA or CAFE standards. The EPA mileage numbers present diesels well, but CAFE's differing fuel mileage equation makes gas-hybrids look better than diesels, and CAFE is something all automakers are looking at. However, you'll notice that German brands aren't mentioned -- their price premium and European diesel volumes make a worthwhile case for diesels, so those diesel Jetta Sportwagons won't be going away any time soon.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autonews.com/article/20090629/ANA06/306299972/1178">Automotive News</a> - Sub. <br />We'd wager that the last thing Toyota wants in the midst of the super-important launch of its new third-generation Prius is a negative stigma attached to the previous model. Unfortunately, that's exactly what the Japanese automaker may have on its hands as a number of owners of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/01/in-the-autoblog-garage-2007-toyota-prius-touring/">2005-2008 Toyota Prius</a> with the HID headlight option are banding together on online forums, message boards and in possible class action lawsuits against the automaker in relation to failing headlamps.<br /><br />According to <em>Advertising Age</em>, these HID headlight bulbs and their associated electronics can sometimes cost well over $1,000 to replace after they've gone faulty, and Toyota is unwilling to pick up the tab. At least one lawsuit has reportedly been filed last month by Girard Gibbs in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles on behalf of a Putnam County, N.Y., Prius owner. The suit contends that the problem is a "dangerous but undisclosed safety defect" and alleges that "Toyota is concealing the problems from owners" despite having been "long been aware of Prius' HID headlight problem." It's possible that the suit will get class-action status.<br /><br />The NHTSA has reportedly filed a preliminary investigation into the issue and contacted Toyota on May 13 regarding 338 complaints it has received so far from Prius owners about the HID headlamps. Spokesmen from Toyota have said the automaker is cooperating with the NHTSA investigation, which may or may not end up calling for an official recall.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-toyota-prius-touring/">Review: 2007 Toyota Prius Touring</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-toyota-prius-touring/553590/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/07priustouring_abgar_apn_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-toyota-prius-touring/553570/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/abgar_prius_anunez_hi21_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-toyota-prius-touring/553577/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/abgar_prius_anunez_hi32_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-toyota-prius-touring/553571/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/abgar_prius_anunez_hi24_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-toyota-prius-touring/553566/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/abgar_prius_anunez_hi12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://adage.com/article?article_id=137654">Advertising Age</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/01/toyota-stung-by-possible-prius-headlight-defect/">Toyota stung by possible Prius headlight defect?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 01 Jul 2009 13:30:00 EST. This year's list has a number of movers and shakers based mainly on the fact that a troubled economy has torpedoed sales of some models and others are now ineligible because their parent brands are being canceled.<br /><br />The Ford F-150 has lost its top ranking in the American-Made Index for the first time since Cars.com began producing the list back in 2006. The new No. 1 is - gasp - the Toyota Camry. Assembled in Georgetown, KY and Lafayette, IN, the Camry's upswing in domestic parts content helped it barely edge out the F-150, which has seen both its sales and domestic parts content fall year-over-year. Toyota, in fact, had four models make the American-Made Index this year including the Sienna, Tundra and first-timer Venza.<br /><br />General Motors placed the Chevrolet Malibu, Silverado and GMC Sierra, while Ford had the aforementioned F-150, and list newcomer Ford Taurus, which enjoys the highest domestic parts content of 90 percent. No Chrysler vehicles made the top ten, although one Honda did: the Lincoln, AL Odyssey has an 80 percent domestic parts content rating and thus sewed up the #10 spot. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Scion iQ Concept - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />As expected, Toyota's youthful Scion division will indeed get a version of the diminutive iQ for the North American market, possibly by either the end of 2010 as an '11 model or in early 2011 as a '12 model. According to <em>Motor Trend</em>, the car will cost about the same as the Yaris and get the usual modifications for the American market, such as slightly extended bumpers and recalibrated airbags.<br /><br />Fortunately, the Big Wheels body kit fitted to the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/08/new-york-2009-the-scion-iq-goes-big-wheels/">conceptual Scion iQ </a>shown off at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/new-york-auto-show/">New York Auto Show</a> won't come to the States as standard equipment. We're not entirely sure what powerplants Toyota plans to use in the American iQ, but in other markets it's available with three engines displacing between 1.0- and 1.4-liters, and no hybrid iQ is currently planned due to cost and packaging considerations.<br /><br />Interestingly, <em>MT</em> also reports that the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/10/toyota-iq-based-ft-ev-battery-electric-concept-headed-for-naias/">Toyota FT-EV</a> electric car concept from this year's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/Detroit-Auto-Show/">Detroit Auto Show</a>, based on the iQ minicar, will hit the market by 2012. At this time, the Japanese automaker may still be deciding between tried-and-true nickel metal hydride batteries or more powerful but unproven lithium ion units. Regardless, Toyota's aiming for a 50-mile range and an eight-hour recharge from a standard wall outlet.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-scion-iq-concept/">New York: Scion iQ Concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-scion-iq-concept/1480082/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/000_scioniqyc_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-scion-iq-concept/1480081/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/001_scioniqyc_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-scion-iq-concept/1480080/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/002_scioniqyc_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-scion-iq-concept/1480079/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/003_scioniqyc_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-scion-iq-concept/1480084/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/004_scioniqyc_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.motortrend.com/features/auto_news/2009/112_0909_scion_iq/index.html">Motor Trend</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/29/report-scion-iq-headed-for-america-by-early-2011-with-a-few-cha/">REPORT: Scion iQ headed for America by early 2011 with a few changes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 29 Jun 2009 19:27:00 EST. <div align="center"><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;"><small>2010 Toyota Prius - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></span><br /></div>
<br />Rumors that General Motors may get access to Toyota's proprietary hybrid technology just <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2009/05/26/report-toyota-to-give-hybrid-technology-to-gm/">won't go away</a>. Today, <em>Bloomberg</em> cites two unnamed sources in reports that Toyota President Akio Toyoda and GM chief Fritz Henderson will meet this August in Michigan to discuss the possibility of a GM-badged version of the Toyota Prius hybrid hatchback.<br /><br />For the record, both General Motors and Toyota have <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2009/06/19/gm-and-toyota-deny-reports-of-hybrid-sharing/">repeatedly denied</a> that any such talks have taken place in the past and have said it's unlikely that they ever will in the future. Many of these rumors indicate that the two automakers are considering building the Prius together at the New United Motor Manufacturing Incorporated (NUMMI) joint venture in California, but GM has today announced that <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/29/after-25-years-gm-ditches-nummi-tie-up-with-toyota-as-part-of-b/">its involvement in NUMMI is over</a>.<br /><br />It remains a possibility that Toyota will fully take over the reigns at NUMMI to finally build the Prius in America, but even if that's the case, it's extremely unlikely that General Motors will have anything to do with the project in light of its own massive undertaking of readying the Chevrolet Volt for the market in 2011.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-toyota-prius-review/">Review: 2010 Toyota Prius</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-toyota-prius-review/2037791/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/prius2010_rev000_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-toyota-prius-review/2037787/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/prius2010_rev002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-toyota-prius-review/2037772/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/prius2010_rev001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-toyota-prius-review/2037790/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/prius2010_rev003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-toyota-prius-review/2037789/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/prius2010_rev004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><strong style="font-style: italic;"></strong>[Source: <a href="http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&amp;sid=as21Ie4pMYnc">Bloomberg</a>]<br /><strong style="font-style: italic;"><small>Photos copyright (C)2009 Sam Abuelsamid / Weblogs, Inc.</small></strong><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/29/report-gm-execs-to-meet-with-toyota-regarding-hybrid-sharing/">GM execs to reportedly meet with Toyota regarding hybrid sharing</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 29 Jun 2009 17:29:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Toyota Brain Machine Interface Wheelchair - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />You shouldn't need Professor X-style telekinetic powers to move a wheelchair using only your mind, at least not according to Toyota. The World's Largest Automaker is busily developing its Brain Machine Interface, which uses thought-control and brain wave analysis technologies in an attempt the make life better for elderly or handicapped people.<br /><br />A series of electrodes are attached to the scalp and measure the brain activities associated with certain thoughts. The BMI then displays those signals on an attached screen and can create a set of instructions that may be useful in all kinds of scenarios, including to move an electric wheelchair.<br /><br />According to Toyota, the company's BMI technology has advanced to the point where it's practically instantaneous (the delay is just 125 milliseconds), is 95-percent accurate and will adapt itself to any user's thought patterns. Next logical question: How long until our cars come sans pedals and steering wheels? <em>Thanks for the tip, FaLeX</em>!<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/toyota-bmi-wheelchair/">Toyota BMI Wheelchair</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/toyota-bmi-wheelchair/2114222/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/88736030_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/toyota-bmi-wheelchair/2114221/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/88736036_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/toyota-bmi-wheelchair/2114220/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/88736050_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/toyota-bmi-wheelchair/2114219/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/88736054_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/toyota-bmi-wheelchair/2114218/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/88736058_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.dawn.com/wps/wcm/connect/dawn-content-library/dawn/news/sci-tech/09-toyota-develops-wheelchair-steered-by-thought-szh--01">Dawn.com</a> | Photo by YOSHIKAZU TSUNO/AFP/Getty]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/29/brain-power-toyota-develops-thought-controlled-wheelchair/">Brain Power: Toyota develops thought-controlled wheelchair</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 29 Jun 2009 16:28:00 EST. As a result, GM will assign its NUMMI stake to "Old GM," effectively ending a 25-year partnership with the Japanese automaker. <br /><br />Over the last quarter-century, the Fremont, California plant has produced a number of vehicles for GM, including the current Pontiac Vibe, as well as the Geo/Chevrolet Prizm, and the Bowtie'd Nova that preceded it.<br /><br />There is no word on what (if any) effect the deal's collapse will have on Toyota's NUMMI-made products which include the Tacoma pickup and Corolla sedan. <br />With a nod to our current global economic and environmental issues, super GT maker Aston Martin has reportedly announced the world's first super luxury supermini. Having blown their development budget on the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/20/aston-gets-social-releases-20-new-pics-of-v8-vantage-on-faceboo/">V12 Vantage RS</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/20/spy-shots-this-is-your-aston-martin-rapide/">Rapide</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/27/first-completed-aston-martin-one-77-wins-concorso-deleganza-des/">One-77</a> hypercar, they turned to an unlikely partner for some help: Toyota. Aston Martin has taken the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/08/new-york-2009-the-scion-iq-goes-big-wheels/">Toyota iQ</a> 3+1 commuter and given it a tailored suit from Savile Row. The result is the new Aston Martin Cygnet you see above. In case you're wondering, a "cygnet" is a baby swan, not to be confused with an ugly duckling.<br /><br />Although technically just a concept, word has it that the vehicle will be put into limited production and sold exclusively to existing Aston Martin owners, at least initially. There's a full press release <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/29/breaking-aston-martin-cygnet-adds-a-smart-set-of-clothes-to-the/">after the jump</a>, but the Cygnet should sell for around &pound;20,000 (around $33k USD) when it goes on sale late next year. The car will retain the iQ's unique 3+1 seating but will be tailored to the individual customer's needs when it is assembled in Gaydon. Think of it as a move to "1-down" BMW's MINI brand. We only have the one photo for now, but from what we can see it doesn't look as unfortunate as we might have expected with Aston's distinctive grille, hood cutouts, side vents, and of course, the winged badge. Still, you have to wonder what this sort of thing might do to the Engish company's brand equity, no? <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/29/breaking-aston-martin-cygnet-adds-a-smart-set-of-clothes-to-the/">Follow the jump</a> for the presser. <em>Thanks to everyone for the tips!</em><br /><br />[Source: Toyota via <a href="http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle/AllCars/241124/">Autocar</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/29/report-aston-martin-cygnet-adds-a-smart-set-of-clothes-to-the-t/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>REPORT: Aston Martin Cygnet adds a smart set of clothes to the Toyota iQ</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/29/report-aston-martin-cygnet-adds-a-smart-set-of-clothes-to-the-t/">REPORT: Aston Martin Cygnet adds a smart set of clothes to the Toyota iQ</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 29 Jun 2009 10:26:00 EST. In order to stay afloat, the Japanese automaker, under the direction of Toyoda, will build more autonomous operations in North America and concentrate on a more region-specific lineup to help the company pull through the recession.<br /><br />While the company will be steered "back to basics," the changes will not involve plant closures - Toyota wants to make sure it retains capacity for when the market bounces back. Toyoda will also personally take a 30% pay cut this year. "The new Toyota sets sail in very stormy waters," said Toyoda at his first news conference. "But right now we're working at full speed to cut costs and jump-start sales with the support of various government incentives being rolled out... We want to do everything possible to avoid a third consecutive year of losses." <br /><br />[Sources: <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/businessNews/idUSTRE55O0YB20090625">Reuters</a> / <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/managementIssues/idUST24211820090625?sp=true">Reuters</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/25/new-toyota-ceo-takes-30-pay-cut-sees-no-recovery-for-two-years/">New Toyota CEO takes 30% pay cut, sees no recovery for two years</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 25 Jun 2009 16:31:00 EST.
