Aston Martin unveiled its droptop Vanquish Volante a couple months ago at Pebble Beach, and for 10 lucky souls, the high-performance convertible is going to be a hit this holiday season. Neiman Marcus just released its Christmas Book for 2013, and the car of choice for its annual catalog of high-end goods is none other than the 2014 Aston Martin Vanquish Volante.

All is not well in Gaydon, as Aston Martin has reported a 24.6-million pound ($39.3M USD) pre-tax loss, an increase from the previous year's 21.2-million pound – $33.9-million – loss. That, friends, is not good.

As one the featured automakers at this year's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, Aston Martin had a pretty big spotlight with which to reveal two production vehicles to the North American market. The 2014 Aston Martin Vanquish Volante (shown above) made its global premiere in Monterey, while the 2015 Aston Martin V12 Vantage S (inset) made its debut on American soil.

A little over two months ago came reports that Daimler and Aston Martin were in talks, again, about "supply and technical-cooperation agreements." The next step has been taken with Aston Martin announcing that it has signed a Letter of Intent that looks "towards a technical partnership" with Mercedes-AMG GmbH, and the two companies aiming to have definitive agreements done by year's end.

Aston Martin is one of the featured marques at the 2013 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. With events set for August 14 through 17 and the show itself on August 18, the British brand is going all out in showing its sleek, powerful GT cars to the throngs of well-heeled attendees.

Behold the 2014 Aston Martin Vanquish Volante in all its convertible glory. Like its hard top twin, the convertible Vanquish boasts a 5.9-liter V12 engine with 565 horsepower and 457 pound-feet of torque. That thrust is good enough to push the car to a top speed of 183 miles per hour, and Aston Martin says the 2014 Vanquish Volante is the first of the company's convertibles to bow with body panels comprised entirely of carbon fiber.
