Hyund-"eh" Genesis wins Canadian Car of the Year Award

Another trophy has been thrown at the Hyundai Genesis by the Automobile Journalists' Association of Canada: 2009 Canadian Car of the Year. To get to the top spot, the Genesis beat an odd assortment of cars, including the Audi A4 and TTS, the Lexus IS F, Mazda6, and Mercedes CL550 and SL63 AMG. Among the other vehicles joining the Genesis on the podium: the Ford Flex took the Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year, and the Honda Fit snagged Best New Design. Kudos, Hyundai. Again...

The Genesis is only the breakout car of the year because it offers most of what an ES offers at a lower price and because of the excitement behind lowly Hyundai being able to release it.
It is a great car and a great achievement for Hyundai.
I've never bought Japanese - only German or American - so to me, I'm starting not to see the big difference between The Genesis and a Lexus of the same size. Besides cheaper interior materials the only difference is that Lexus has a longer record by which to compare reliabiity. But their record isn't really that long. Its all perception.

Hyundai is Korean.

Well that, and that fact that a Lexus ES350 is a FWD V6 powered car and the Genesis is a RWD V8 powered (optionally) car. But who am I to split hairs.

Congratulations Hyundai!
An Jonathan: Ow!
It is too early in the morning for such puns.

can we stop with the "eh"s. and if you insist on sterotyping then use it as we do; use it as a question mark

This reminds me of the British officers trying to pronounce Indian names in "Gandhi." The first one pronounces it to rhyme with "Gand-ih" (Gand like band); the second corrects him in a superior tone: "It's GOND-ih."

you have to be so harsh eh ? XD

How much did they pay for that?!? Those headlights are 3 series rip off, in fact the whole front is. Have modern society changed so much that they give awards to copy cats, then people catch plagiarising other people's research should be given PhDs.

Hyundai has been testing this car, according to spy shots, since late 2004, so I doubt it took styling from any BMW 3 series.

How can you confuse that grill for anything but a Benz rip?
jsjs 1:41AM (2/17/2009)
You're blind if you think the front looks anything like the 3 Series (most people say Mercedes b/c of the grille or Lexus - well, Lexus copied from Mercedes).
I guess since Mitsu and VW have copied the "angry" headlight look from the previous gen Elantra - that they must just be "copiers" as well.
And did Hyundai pay off American journalists for winning the North American Car of the Year?
Or what about MyRide/Autobytel, Urban Wheel Car, Cars.com for being Car of the Year or Motorweek's Driver's Choice for best luxury sedan.
And Consumer Reports rates the Genesis as the top-rated upscale sedan and they don't accept advertising so your "argument" falls flat.

Good for Hyundai, but are these automotive journalists right-minded? The Pontiac Vibe got a higher score than the A4, TTS, CL550, and SL63.

3 series? You mean Mazda 3? Because I'm sure you can't mean BMW.

it was neither BMW or Mazda
its Mercedes the tail light they said is from the 3 series
and Mazda just took the headlights from the Genesis

It seems like Hyundai can only create either hilarious (Genesis Coupé) either bland design (Genesic).
