Formula 1:
It’s show time! The F1 season kicks
off with the Bahrain GP this weekend, the first race for the new V8 rules package. This season should have many
interesting twists and turns, as teams wrestle with new cars, a new engine formula, the return of tire changes during
the race, and the new “knock out” qualifying format.
Bahrain will be American Scott Speed’s debut
as a team driver, and Red Bull gave him something to remember, throwing a huge “Arabian Nights” party Thursday
night to unveil the team livery for Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Toro Rosso (above).
Honda Racing F1’s third
driver Anthony Davidson is on top of the charts so far, after a dusty and windy Friday practice session.
Qualifying: Saturday, 6am ET, SPEED Channel
Race: Sunday, 6am ET SPEED Channel, and a replay at 12:00pm ET
More racing after the jump…
NASCAR:
The Busch and Nextel Cup teams are in sin city this weekend, with
Jimmie Johnson trying to maintain his early-season momentum without crew chief Chad Knaus, who is still on suspension
after his tech inspection faux pas at Daytona.
The Busch race
will be broadcast at 6pm ET Saturday (on FX), and the Nextel Cup race Sunday at 4pm on FOX.
A1GP:
The penultimate round of the first annual World Cup of Motorsport takes
place in the U.S. this weekend, at one of the country’s most famous road courses, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The race
was nearly canceled after heavy rains caused extensive damage to runoff areas at the track, but it’s going ahead as
planned, with TV coverage (delayed, not live) on OLN Sunday at 7pm. Laguna Seca veterans Bryan Herta (Team USA) and
Patrick Carpentier (Team Canada) will be up against a host of drivers who have never experienced Laguna Seca’s infamous
“corkscrew” – should be interesting!
AMA:
Motorcycle
road racing is one of the most visually compelling forms of motorsport, and the jewel in the crown of U.S. road racing
is Daytona Bike Week. A multi-day extravaganza of on- and off-road racing, Bikeweek culminates in the Daytona 200
Formula Xtreme road race Saturday at 1:30pm ET (SPEED Channel). SPEED has TV coverage of all the events, so check
speedtv.com for details.
