Sales success in the U.S. market is causing Kia
Motors to expand plans for its first U.S. factory before the company has even had a chance to pick a location. The
subsidiary of Hyundai Motor, which opened the first Hyundai U.S. factory earlier this year, has been planning its
factory for some time, but recently expanded its plans from a 1,500-worker plant to one employing 2,000 to 2,500.
Kia is targeting U.S. sales of 500,000 annually by 2010, approximately twice 2005 estimated sales.
The company is considering sites in Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky and South Carolina.
