And you think you have a long commute

In a move that baffles me Ford has sent J Mays to London to take on a second job title of chief creative designer over his current salutation of vice president of design. What does that mean? That Mays, who has been spending about ten days a month in England for the past year and a half, will get more time to spend on addressing “design on a more strategic, long-term basis.” OK. But why couldn’t he do that from Detroit? Maybe this will give Jaguar a needed kick in the arse or else the next X-Type will look like the Ford Five Hundred. Maybe it’s just a move so Mays can be closer to his private social club called “Designers we love to hate” with founding members like Chris Bangle.
