So far in the rollout for the 2014 Kia Forte we've had two helpings of sketches, now we get an artfully obfuscated look at the car's actual sheetmetal. Posting photos of the five-door hatch on its South Korean Facebook page (our Forte is the K3 in Kia's home market), what we can say so far is that it's got an attractive backside.

This is the budget maker's challenger to that thick slice of the market that's home to the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla and Ford Focus, and speaking of that last car, when we look at the image above we get definite hints of it, and that's not a bad thing. Kia's recent run indicates that the 2014 Forte should come with the kinds of detailing to keep it from being a long-shot competitor in that segment, but we won't know about that until we can see the entire thing.

The company hasn't said when it will be revealed, but since it will be released in markets outside the U.S. later this year, that should be soon.

Actually, the rear lights remind me of the ones on a RenaultSamsung SM3 flipped around - and those in turn are reminiscent of the Ford Mondeo. But it still looks nice enough and is not a carbon copy of anything.

Hyundai/Kia doesn't even need a design department, they just copy everyone else.

Kia's new design language looked incredibly unique with the Optima, but the taillights of this Forte screams Ford Focus.

Sorry, don't see the resemblance. 2012 Ford Focus: http://wms.tkcarsites.com/PagesOnTheFly/Assets/1450/Finance-2012-Ford-Focus-Concord-NH.jpg Look at that picture of the Focus and then look at the Forte taillights above. Are you guys high or just haters? If anything I'd say the Focus looks an awful lot like the Optima taillights. In which case, one could argue Ford is the copier here. Well it looks like every car in the civilized world will have the same taillights, except Cadillac.

I see their design DNA is really coming into focus. Good for them.

Focus? As in lifted from the Ford Focus? Might as well buy the original.

Uh...how exactly does this look like the Ford Focus? I see no resemblance whatsoever. http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2011/03/lead16-2012-ford-focus-platinum.jpg

Hey now, Kia (Hyundai) is copying the rear-end look of the newest Ford Focus and 2014 Mazda6...

Pretty sure the design of the new car was frozen before the '12 Focus came out.

Do a favor for me and look at the rear end of a 2007 Ford Mondeo please. Plenty of time to think about before freezing the design I do believe.

You obviously don't know what a Focus nor the Mazda6 look like.

Never mind what I said before, this is entirely a Ford rear end. They really just couldn't help themselves. The front profile looked good and was almost all original, and now this. Guess some things never change.

I guarantee you one thing Kia won't copy from Ford. All them damn recalls...sheesh...you'd think Ford would have learned a thing or two about that by now...

I like modern Kias, but I can't help feeling that their newest designs are becoming more and more 'generic-European-designed-car' ... essentially they look more and more like Opels and European Fords with every new design.

This looks better than any Ford or Opel I've seen.

I would rather buy a used 2007 Ford Mondeo than the Forte and I will still get the nice rump flaunting those tailights.
