The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and General Motors have announced the recall of 10,000 vehicles. According to The Detroit News, certain 2011 Cadillac SRX and 2011 Buick Lacrosse models may have been built with a defect that can prevent the vehicle's defroster from effectively clearing the windshield. NHTSA is concerned that the reduced visibility could lead to an accident.
The problem was discovered to during a production trial, in which one in 50 vehicles exhibited the defect.

At the moment, no crashes or incidents have been reported as a result of the programming error, though it's worth noting that only a third of the 10,179 vehicles covered by the recall actually belong to customers. The rest are either unsold or are awaiting delivery.

GM dealers will reprogram the HVAC software to fix the bug free of charge.

      The rear defroster on my Cobalt has never worked. It's super exhilarating driving when the all the windows and the side view mirrors are frosted over.

      Our old '92 Mitsu Diamante had a defroster that was completely useless. We were convinced that they installed it upside down.

        @GMFanBoi

        Not to piss on your fanboyism, but GM actually had more separate recalls last year than Toyota.

        Argh, grammer edit ***I hate to say this but my Camry SE V6 has been more reliable than my beloved M5.***

        Is there anyway this blog can put an edit feature so we don't always have to post new replies just for edits? ugh!

        While I strive to be open minded, I'm still really salty over my pos Malibu that convinced me to go back to Toyota. I hate to say this but my Camry SE V6 is more has been more reliable than my beloved M5.

      Ineffective defroster is bad... However, who in their right mind would drive off when you can't see through the windshield? Regardless of why you can't see, that's irresponsible.
