More A4! Audi's new sedan in S-Line trim

click above image for more pics of the new Audi A4 S-Line
The leakage of information coming forth from Audi AG on its new A4 (some say 2008, others say 2009) continues, and along with eight new high-resolution, desktop-wallpaper size pics in our gallery, we also have four new shots of the A4 S-Line, which, while not as potent as the actual high-performance S4, at least looks the part. The S-Line treatment is seen here dressing up an A4 with the 3.2L FSI engine that produces 265 hp and 243 ft-lbs. of torque. The S-Line trim adds the obviously larger wheels with a strong seven split-spoke design, though other than that, exterior changes seem to be minimal. The paint color may be exclusive to the S-line, and it appears the chrome trim around the greenhouse has been blacked out, as well as the lower rear bumper.

definitely keept way to close to today's design
makes it look old already
almost what MB did with the E-class
i think the interior layout and design need help
where is the second cup holder?
that ear end is very BMW-ish, not a good thing as I don't like it on the s-series either.
with the 2.0L I4 coming in at $35k, i'd take the CTS anyday over this
not only does the CTS look ages better, way more aggresive, better looking interior, but it'll also smoke the A4, not to mention the A4 is still FWD

Dude what are you talking about? The white car in the picture is a 3.2 Quattro. That's All Wheel Drive with a 40 / 60 torque split. Also Audi interiors are the best in the business, much better than cars that are in it's price range.

I love Audi's design. I own an A3. But I can't imagine buying another one until they get their reliability issues fixed. There's no way I'm keeping my current car past the original warranty. Its really a shame. I think this is a beautiful car.

i'm thinking of buying a used a3. I know of audi's past reliability issues. Have the problems extended to the a3 as well? What has your experience been with yours?

Car and Driver did a write-up on the A3 and said it was very reliable. They loved it and gave it a recommended review.
As far as the rest of their line-up they are doing very well in vehicle reliability

My A4 is pushing extra 180hp on stock internals, driven hard for almost five years on a super stiff tracksport suspension, without any real problems. No rattles or squeaks either. From my personal experience with a third Audi, they have no more reliability issues than any other German brand. In fact, I laugh at my old man and his unreliable M5, and before that he had an even more unreliable Mercedes. Next time, he's buying Audi.

I had two relatively major issues in the first 10K miles. There was an issue with one of the valves which caused the car to idle erratically. This started happening about 6 months after I bought the car. It wouldn't happen all the time. I brought it into the dealer the few times it did. They told me it was bad gas. Then it started happening more frequently. I brought it back but they weren't able to diagnose the issue right away. I jumped online and found a TSB reporting the problem. When I told them to check they quickly diagnosed the problem. They ordered a part which took about a week. Runs great now.
I also had an issue with the instrument cluster. The service indicator kept coming on (note: just the maintenance light not the check engine light). I brought it into the dealer to fix over 7 times. Twice they gave it back to me and the light immediately turned on less than 50 feet from their garage. They didn't get it fixed until I got Audi involved directly. They had to order a new instrument cluster again taking about a week. I probably would have lived with the problem if it wasn't under warranty. I believe they said the cluster was over $2K.
The same dealership (Santa Monica Audi) has also broke the top off my oil cap and failed to reconnect the tube for the air cleaner. My oil light came on during a road trip. Imagine my surprise when I opened the hood.
In retrospect, these things are relatively minor. Had the problems been handled quickly and professionally the first time my opinions might be completely different.
I love the car. Its fun to drive. Seems well put together. I'm just concerned about some of the electronics. Those things are hard to diagnose and expensive to fix.
Read the message boards over at vwvortex.com for more details. Seems like problems are relatively minor across the board. The only reoccurring issues I've heard discussed are the seat bolsters cracking and the sunroof visors breaking.

This S-Line might get me to come back to the 4 rings...

The LED trim lights look great on the R8. They look retarded on the A4. It's actually almost insulting to the R8.

Great looking car. I hope that Audi is able to shave a few dollars off the price and put more R&D into reliability so we see these cars around more often.

Not really into Audis due to their driving dynamics and fwd setup but very pleased to see it looks like they've moved the front wheel forward so the engine will be slightly further back.

Another on Audi Reliability. Bests all European brands.

My G-friend went from a Honda that had all sorts of problems to an Audi A4 (current body style). She loves it and says it has had zero problems.
IMO if you're going to buy a German car, it better be an Audi or BMW. Forget Mercedes, I see them broken down all the time.

Uh, yeah nice eyelashes. Do we always have to make LEDs stand out individually? What happened to the good ol' diffuser?

waste of money. Get the 2.0T with quattro, sport package and then pop in a chip and you'll have more power, better torque curve, less weight and you'll save 6k at least.

A chipped 2.0T, even on 93oct gas puts out 250 max. While the V6 is heavier, it's much more responsive and considerably smoother in power delivery.

Why does everybody hate on Audi saying that the styling makes it look like last years model? That is not true at all. I own a 2007 A4, and I can tell you that this design is very much different, you just have to know the car a little better to understand that. I personally think this car is gonna be sweet, although the rear styling does look very BMW-esque.

The lights look like they were designed by a crack head !! Down at the beach a civic with shells on it,yes sea shells, an art car i guess. These lights remind me of it...horrible.I would stay away from it mearly because of it.

LOL - I love it!
You do know that they are simply daytime running lights? Yes, there is a switch to disable them (aka "turn them from on to off")
I do understand your feeling though. Im fed up with the Mercedes End of Summer Sales Event Commercial with the "I love you, I love you, I love you" BS. I'll never buy a Mercedes because of how repulsed I am of that commercial. It reminds me of how pretentious many Mercedes owners are, and all over a material object...
