Best Deals: Fullsize pickup trucks

The fullsize pickup segment in America is just as hot today as it ever has been. But these days, it's also a little confusing.

Several manufacturers released new versions of their best-selling pickups for 2019, but at the same time they also kept the assembly lines churning for the previous versions. That means pricing reports are all over the map, and discounts that apply to one truck may not apply to another, even if they share the same name and model year.

The good news is that there are some really good trucks for sale right now, and some of them are offered at a massive discount. This slideshow breaks down the different fullsize truck models in the half-ton class for sale in 2019, and includes average transaction prices for each. We've sorted the list by the percentage of discount off their suggested retail prices.

If you're looking to score the biggest percentage off retail price on a brand-new fullsize truck, the 2018 Nissan Titan and its 19% price slash is your pickup.

Note that these transaction prices are for the 2018 edition; the 2019 Titan's average cost of $39,214 represents a 12.6% discount. That's still not bad, but as you'll see as you scroll through this list, there are a lot more deals you should know about.

Nissan splits its fullsize truck attack into two entries, the standard Titan and the XD, which is a little more burly and is available with a 5.0-liter Cummins turbo diesel V8 engine.

If you want to buy a still-new 2018 Titan XD, you'll probably score a great deal. The average transaction price right now in America, at a few bucks shy of $39,000, represents a 17.7% discount off MSRP.

The 2019 Titan XD's average transaction price is nearly $10,000 higher at $48,294.

GMC is currently selling two fullsize pickup trucks in America. There's a brand-new redesigned 2019 model, and then there's this: the 2019 GMC Sierra Limited. This particular entry is the older version, though it is badged as a 2019 model.

Of all the 2019s, the Sierra Limited's average discount of $7,338 represents the largest discount off MSRP that you'll find in June. But it's not the cheapest new fullsize truck — click over to the next slide to see why.

With an average transaction price of just $32,166, the 2019 Ram 1500 Classic is the least expensive 2019-model-year fullsize truck in America in June 2019.

As is the case with General Motors, Ram chose to keep selling the old version of its 1500 — rebadged as the 1500 Classic — alongside the redesigned version. This discount applies to the 1500 Classic.

This one is pretty straightforward. As you'd expect, the biggest discounts on the F-150 are for leftover 2018 models.

By comparison, the 2019 Ford F-150's average transaction price of $43,344 represents a savings of $4,580 — or a little under 10 percent — off MSRP.

The discount above is for the brand-new 2019 Ram 1500, not the older version that's badged 1500 Classic. And with an average transaction price that's 13 percent lower than the sticker, this latest-and-greatest is also a pretty decent deal.

GMC fancies its Sierra as the slightly more upscale twin to the Chevy Silverado, and that's reflected in the 2019 Sierra's average transaction price of a few hundred dollars shy of $50,000.

That's a not-insignificant savings of 11 percent off MSRP, but the 2019 Sierra is still the priciest pickup on this list. We'd bet the popularity of the chrome-clad and leather-lined Sierra Denali trim level is responsible for its high average cost.

The 2019 Toyota Tundra — we don't have data on the 2018 edition, which means there probably aren't a lot of them left unsold — doesn't see big rebates like some of its American competitors, but its average transaction price of $41,044 is still pretty reasonable by comparison.
