February
17 could prove to be a day that will live in infamy as far as General Motors is concerned. This Friday is the
big day that Delphi, GM’s biggest parts supplier, will decide whether or not to request that the bankruptcy court void
its labor contracts should it fail to reach an agreement with the UAW.
If Delphi’s workers go on
strike, that will mean billions upon billions of wasted dollars, as well as a work stoppage at one of GM’s
most critical moments — the initial production months for vehicles built on its important GMT900 platform. Analysts
say that GM may be offering buyouts to the union workers, hoping to avoid the drought.
