Incentive Wars – Ford fires back

Automotive News reports today that Ford Motor (“Innovation is our mission”) is launching its own year-end incentive program, called “Keep It Simple.” Much like GM’s Red Tag program, Keep It Simple emphasizes the one-price selling that was a popular feature of the summer’s “employee-pricing” programs. Fords will feature window stickers showing the MSRP, the Simple Plan price, cash incentives, and the bottom-line price. (Does MSRP really mean anything any more? Come to think of it, did it ever mean anything?) As an example, a 2006 Ford Escape that lists at $20,865 will sell for $17,294 under the KIS program. The program runs through January 3, and like the GM plan, excludes the models you really want – the Fusion, Lincoln Zephyr, Mercury Milan, Ford Mustang and Ford GT.
