Can’t get much rarer than this
There are plenty of rare Porsches out there. From special editions to rare options to that weird one-off four-door 989 prototype. However, few can spin tales quite like this Porsche 906-Based Vasek Polak Spyder on Bring a Trailer can. What’s better, it comes with a matching 1970 Ford F-600 Car Hauler that was reportedly used as a race support vehicle by Vasek Polak in the 1970s.
This example started life as one-of-65 Porsche 906 race cars produced in 1966. In 1970, famed Porsche dealer, race car driver, race team owner, and car collector Vasek Polak had his chief engineer, Alwin Springer, and chief mechanic, Dieter Inzenhofer, convert the coupe body into an open-roof racer. In addition to the body change, the chassis was modified to accommodate a fiberglass body with a 908/03-inspired tail and low-profile doors. After a few SCCA wins in 1970, it was sold to Harold Kirberg, who raced it in SCCA events for three seasons before removing the Spyder body panels and replacing them with wedge-style bodywork. The now-wedge Porsche 906 was sold yet again in the late 1970s, and the collector who purchased it continued racing it during the 1980s with the Kirberg Special body.

A return to its original form
The car saw extensive storage after the 1980s, before its chassis was sold and rebuilt to its original 906 coupe form. The Vasek Polak Spyder body panels remained in storage and were sold to the current owner, the owner of GA Kundensport in Santa Paula, California. Kundensport then set to work recreating the chassis to fit Polak’s Spyder body panels on, refurbishing said body panels with the period-correct silver Vasek Polak livery, and installing a SuperTec Performance-built 2.0L flat-six with a magnesium-case five-speed manual transaxle. Other goodies include Bosch slide-valve mechanical fuel injection, ventilated disc brakes, coilover shock absorbers, staggered-width 15” wheels, and fiberglass bucket seats upholstered in red. To ensure that everything was rebuilt to the proper specifications, Kundensport received guidance from Vasek Polak team members Alwin Springer and Dieter Inzenhofer.

The cabin is sparse, as it should be for a race car, featuring a red Schroth six-point harness for the driver, a red lap belt for the passenger, a padded driver-side headrest, an electrical cut-off switch, and a fire extinguisher. The gauges don’t stray from what is strictly necessary, with nothing other than a VDO green-letter 10k-rpm tachometer, an oil pressure gauge, and an oil temperature gauge. The cherry on top of this racecar-shaped sundae is that former team member Alwin Springer and Vasek Polak Jr. both signed the car as well.
Need a period-correct box truck for your race car?
Need a way to transport your Porsche 906 Spyder to the historic races? Well, lucky for you, this listing comes bundled with a 1970 Ford F-600 box truck that was reportedly used as a race support vehicle by Vasek Polak in the 1970s. The truck was refurbished by its current owner in 2010 and features hand-painted BMW lettering on the door, a white cargo box with painted Vasek Polak graphics, along with a roll-up door, a hydraulic liftgate with ramps, wood flooring, overhead lighting, a removable stairway, and a Snap-On toolbox. This big beast of a truck is powered by a 360ci V8 linked with a four-speed manual transmission and a dually rear axle. What an utterly incredible addition.
