Dialing up the sophistication for the 2nd-Gen flagship SUV

The Palisade cemented itself as the premium three-row SUV for Hyundai when it debuted for the 2020 model year. It garnered rave reviews for its space, interior refinement, and practicality. Big families flocked to it, along with its platform-sharing cousin, the Kia Telluride. The Palisade, however, has lived in the more attractive Telluride’s shadow in terms of sales. Now, the Palisade gets a full redesign, and it’s safe to say it’s a big deal with its more cohesive and refined styling, bigger interior, and upgraded tech.

The new Palisade is still very much a three-row family SUV, and it can haul up to eight occupants. It comes in six trim levels: SE, SEL Convenience, SEL Premium, XRT Pro, Limited, and Calligraphy. Prices start at $39,435 and go up to $54,560. All Palisades are powered by a 287-horsepower naturally aspirated V6. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is optional. EPA estimates are 18 city, 24 highway, and 20 combined for front-wheel drive models. With the towing package, the Palisade can pull 5,000 pounds and comes standard with Trailer Sway Control and trailer pre-wiring.

The Palisade’s wheelbase (the distance between front and rear wheels) is longer than the first-gen vehicle, and the interior dimensions are larger. Two trims that stand out in the set are the XRT Pro, a more off-road-leaning version, and the ultra-premium Calligraphy trim that offers a more upscale cabin. Primary competitors in the mid-size three-row SUV segment are the Toyota Grand Highlander, Honda Pilot, Chevrolet Traverse, Mazda CX-90, and the Palisade’s platform-sharing cousin, the Kia Telluride. Hyundai is offering a great lease deal in September on the new Palisade.
