2020 Toyota Supra to be built alongside BMW Z4 in Austria

Assembly will be handled by Magna Steyr

For decades, Manga Steyr has been building cars for a number of manufacturers, including Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, Chrysler and Jeep. Current models built by Magna include the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, the BMW 5 Series and Jaguar I-Pace. At the 2019 Detroit Auto Show, the company announced it will add a fourth automaker to its current lineup when production starts on the new 2020 Toyota Supra. The car will be built alongside the new 2020 BMW Z4, a car that was developed with and shares much with Toyota's new sports coupe.

In addition to assembly, Magna Steyr will build and supply parts like seats, body panels, door latches and more. The Supra will be built in Graz in southern Austria, roughly 260 miles from BMW's headquarters in Munich. The Magna Steyr manufacturing division is a subsidiary of Magna International, one of the largest automotive parts suppliers in the world. The Canadian company was founded in 1957 and first worked with GM before expanding to work with a variety of global automakers.

The new 2020 Supra was revealed this week at the Detroit Auto Show. The car has been in development for the past few years, with most of the design and tuning handled by BMW. The car shares a platform, powertrain and interior with BMW's new roadster. The car should go on sale later this year.
