The BMW Z4 and Toyota GR Supra collaboration ended up silencing most doubters. Although the outgoing Supra was criticized for relying so heavily on German engineering, which some believed diluted its JDM heritage, enthusiasts ended up getting two accomplished sports cars with distinct personalities and driving dynamics. Unfortunately, anyone still wanting a new Z4 or Supra is out of luck. Although they each went out of production earlier this year, a new report indicates that nationwide inventory of the duo has finally run dry.
Two Memorable Sports Cars Disappear

Research from CarsDirect confirmed that new examples of the BMW Z4 and Toyota GR Supra are gone. That leaves enthusiasts with only the used market to turn to if they’re interested in either of these cars.
In 2025, BMW sold 2,113 Z4 models and Toyota sold 2,953 examples of the Supra. Those are low numbers, even for niche sports cars, and slow sales likely contributed to the decision to end production without immediate predecessors in sight.

The crown jewel of both cars was the six-cylinder turbocharged engine found in top trims. Producing 382 horsepower, the sonorous six-pot is a joy, especially when paired with the manual gearbox available with both cars. The Supra was the more precise and engaging car to drive, but the Z4 had the badge cachet and more upscale finishes. Both cars were available in cheaper four-cylinder guise, too.
Various special editions of each car were available through the years, particularly the Supra, which went out on a high with the MkV Final Edition. The departure of these models leaves not much more than the Nissan Z for enthusiasts looking for a manual six-cylinder sports car at an attainable price point.
A New Supra Is Coming, But Not A Z4

Toyota
BMW has made no mention of intentions to develop or launch a successor to the Z4. That leaves the German brand without a two-door roadster for the first time in ages, and without a Z4 since the original launched 24 years ago.
There’s better news for Toyota Supra fans, though. Rumors indicate that Toyota will launch a new Supra late in 2027 or early in 2028. Unlike the outgoing model, the new Supra will have a Toyota-engineered powertrain, not one shared with BMW. A 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with hybrid assistance is expected, and while we’ll miss the sonic pleasures of a six-cylinder, the new setup is said to produce around 400 horsepower.
Whether Toyota introduces a six-cylinder model and keeps the manual gearbox remains to be seen, but at least it’s not the end of the road for the iconic nameplate.
