For the longest time, Honda has sworn by its mechanical all-wheel drive systems. Even as more of its cars have shifted to hybrid power, the AWD models still sent power to the rear wheels via a mechanical connection. Many of its competitors have since adapted to an e-AWD system wherein a rear motor takes care of waking up the rear wheels.

But that may soon change as the company has announced that it will soon build its very first e-AWD system. It’s all part of the brand’s next-generation hybrid system, simply called Honda Hybrid. In its own words, the system has already been developed, so we can expect this to be applied to the next wave of models coming soon.

More AWD Hondas Coming Soon?

Honda has typically offered all-wheel drive versions of its non-crossover/SUV in its home market, but it hasn’t been the case for the rest of the world. That said, it now appears the e-AWD system is likely to be applied to global models, as this latest development was announced in Honda’s plans for the world.

At the moment, Honda says it’s for midsize vehicles, but we wouldn’t be totally surprised if it appears on smaller models down the line, given its more compact layout. With the driveshaft gone, it should also free up more space in the cabin, as well as offer even larger cargo capacities.

But aside from packaging advantages, this system should give Honda hybrids even better fuel economy. There will be less energy used to spin the heavy driveshaft, and the light electric motor will simply draw energy from the battery to power the rear wheels. Honda also claims more immediate throttle response and all-wheel drive activation with this setup.

Potential Applications

Given that Honda mentioned midsize models, one thinks of its midsize crossovers getting this new bit of kit first. The thing is, the company wants people to take its Trailsport models more seriously, so we doubt that it will replace the clever VTM-4 system that’s currently in place. Instead, we turn our attention to the less off-road-oriented models for this.

The first car we think that can use this e-AWD system is the next-generation Odyssey. Right now, the minivan isn’t available with all-wheel drive, let alone a hybrid system. Those are things its main rival, the Toyota Sienna, has, and it would be a good move to do that for future versions of the family van. There’s also the Accord that also isn’t available with all-wheel drive at the moment, and having that should make it a good match for the all-wheel drive Camry hybrid.

Of course, the e-AWD system could stand to benefit many more cars in the Honda lineup. The new-generation CR-V is a strong candidate to get it, as well as the HR-V and the rumored Accord Crosstour wagon. While we’re at it, this could also work in the Civic to go head-to-head with the Corolla Hybrid AWD. We’ll find out soon enough once the new wave of Hondas start coming in.

Toyota Sienna Hybrid: Why and How a Recall Began

The NHTSA recall report explains the issue in detail and says that the vehicles in question have an integrated seatbelt with a pretensioner that quickly retracts during high-speed frontal crashes, securing the passenger. The seatbelt systems feature an outboard recliner that uses interlocking teeth to secure the belt, and when the pretensioner deploys, it creates oscillation between the cam and pawls within this recliner mechanism. In certain scenarios – with variables including the type of crash, the seat back’s position, and pretensioner deployment times – this oscillation can allow the cam to rotate. If this happens, the recliner mechanism disengages from the locked position, and that can have obvious negative consequences. But despite this issue appearing across multiple model years, it was only discovered last year. Fortunately, it was discovered by Toyota, not an extremely unlucky buyer.

Over the course of January to November 2025, Toyota says it was conducting sled testing using a modified seatbelt and second-row seat assembly with an eye to finding improvements for future seats when certain tests revealed the disengagement of the rear seatback’s outboard recliner mechanism. This led to an investigation that ran from December 2025 to August of this year. More sled testing was conducted, during which Toyota found that internal friction affected the recliner. Yet more testing was undertaken, and the automaker began field recoveries to assess how Sienna second-row seat assemblies being used every day were performing. Over September and October, Toyota conducted crash tests to validate the results of sled testing, and that’s when it discovered the issue and began the process of initiating a voluntary recall.

What Toyota Sienna Owners Need to Know

Dealers have already been informed of the impending Toyota Sienna recall, but owners will only be notified of a remedy in December. When the remedy is ready, Toyota Siennas must be brought to dealers for assessment, and most vehicles will need nothing more than an updated SRS ECU software file to better control the pretensioner. However, roughly 200 2022-2025 Sienna Hybrid minivans will need their two second-row seatbacks replaced with new components featuring a different recliner mechanism. Whichever group owners fall into, a dealer visit is necessary, and the fix will be applied at no cost.

Honda has fitted the Odyssey with a Snow Mode to entice buyers who would otherwise opt for a minivan that offers AWD like the Sienna or Pacifica. Snow mode in a car without AWD like the Odyssey is meant to mitigate the absence of AWD, but one has to ask whether any kind of computerized traction-management system can compensate for the fact that you only have two driven wheels. Isn’t it just a band-aid on a broken leg? How useful is the Odyssey’s Snow mode? Is it a worthy substitute for AWD, and should you still be considering the Odyssey if you live in a snowy area, or should you just go for an AWD rival like the Chrysler Pacifica or Toyota Sienna? How the Honda Odyssey’s Snow Mode Works

The Odyssey’s Snow mode is part of the car’s Intelligent Traction Management System, which is designed to adapt to varying road conditions to optimize traction and stability by adjusting and fine-tuning the powertrain on the fly. Snow mode has to be manually selected via a button on the center console and will remain active as long as it is selected, but Intelligent Traction Management will revert to the default Normal mode when the ignition is switched off. Depending on the gauge display fitted to your Odyssey, the selection screen may look like this:

The Honda Passport’s Snow mode works similarly, but the SUV also has access to optional AWD to further improve traction. Snow mode in the Odyssey works on various fronts to maximize front-wheel traction on snow:

1. Throttle response. Snow Mode softens and dulls the drive-by-wire throttle system’s response to avoid torque spikes on the driven front wheels that may induce wheelspin and cause a loss of traction. Soft and gentle throttle application is essential on slippery roads to maintain grip.
2. Second-gear pull-away. Snow mode is specifically tuned to prevent wheelspin from a standing start in snow, and sets the 10-speed automatic transmission to pull away in second gear. This reduces wheel torque and the likelihood of wheelspin.
3. Transmission shift mapping. The transmission will shift up quickly to higher gears to keep wheel torque as low as possible, as traction is more easily lost in a lower gear at higher engine revs.
4. Stability control. Honda’s stability control, called Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), is optimized to work in conjunction with all these other measures to keep the vehicle stable and on course, with earlier intervention and more precise management due to the low-grip conditions.

Tires are Your First Line of Defense

It’s important to understand that Snow mode cannot defy the laws of physics, and there will be conditions where the traction of two driven wheels will simply not be enough to overcome the conditions. That said, the value of snow tires is often grossly underestimated, and some people run summer or all-season tires on their AWD cars year-round because they think the AWD system can overcome any shortcomings the tires may have. This is an incorrect assumption, as tests have shown that a FWD car with snow tires comfortably outsprints an AWD car on summer tires to 60 mph on snow. The Honda Odyssey’s Snow Mode Vs. AWD: The Verdict 

Equipped with proper winter tires, a Honda Odyssey in Snow mode will do an admirable job, and the tires will give the car’s control systems the best possible chance of maintaining traction and stability. You can indeed use your Odyssey in snowy conditions; in fact, a FWD Odyssey on winter tires is likely to outperform and outgrip an AWD rival on summer tires in the same conditions. However, that’s the best-case scenario, and when you add all-season or winter tires to a car with AWD, the AWD car quickly gains the upper hand again – and never gives it up again.

All things being equal, and on the same tires, AWD will always be superior to even the best Snow mode on any RWD or FWD car, and that’s the bottom line, especially in deep snow where the FWD car is likely to become bogged down and stuck more easily, and a more suitable snow car like a higher-riding SUV may be in order. However, given the very important role of tires and the excellent snow performance of winter tires, you will probably be perfectly well off in your Odyssey if you live in a snowy area and your driving conditions and snow depth don’t tax the ground clearance of your Odyssey.

Final Thoughts

Snow mode on the appropriate winter tires will likely be enough to see you through winters that don’t see severe snowfall, and if you prefer the Odyssey over rivals for its engaging driving experience, it can still be a feasible option for you. However, it’s important to stress that high-quality and positively reviewed winter tires are going to be essential in the absence of AWD, and will give you the safety margin you need. For safety’s sake, go for winter or all-weather tires at the very least, and not all-season tires. On the same tires, Snow mode can never hope to equal the performance of AWD, regardless of the claims the automaker makes. We suggest going for a winter test drive in an Odyssey with winter tires to see if it will meet your needs, or else you’ll be better off in an AWD rival.

Family vehicles would no longer have sports car styling and hard suspension setups, performance levels would be adequate rather than unusable, and the interiors would be cavernous and practical.

This imaginary world would be filled with, you guessed it: minivans. Modern minivans are a far cry from the boxy conveyances of the ‘80s and ‘90s, but they still offer the kind of real-word practicality and usability that no SUV can hope to provide.

Sliding side doors for easy access to the third row? Check. Massive interior space for you and your extended family? Check again. A comfortable ride with enough cup holders to keep hydrated for days? Another check. And once you add in an AWD drivetrain, you have what is unquestionably the best all-round family vehicle that money can buy.

Chrysler Pacifica

The Chrysler Pacifica features an optional fully mechanical, automatic AWD system that engages when slippage is detected. It can disconnect the rear driveshaft to conserve fuel. A major pro of the gas-powered Pacifica AWD is that it retains the fold-flat 2^nd and 3^rd row Stow ‘n Go seating. It costs $3,345 over the FWD variants and is available on all three trims. However, one drawback is that AWD is completely unavailable on the Pacifica Plug-in Hybrid model, forcing buyers seeking all-wheel traction into the gas-only engine, which is powerful but delivers just 20 mpg overall.

Toyota Sienna

The Toyota Sienna uses an electronic AWD system powered by an independent rear electric motor, delivering instant rear-wheel torque on slippery surfaces without the weight penalty of a traditional mechanical driveshaft. It costs $2,000 on lower trims, lowering to around $890 for mid-spec models, and is standard fitment on the range-topping Platinum trim.

Its primary advantage is efficiency, achieving an impressive 35 MPG combined. On the downside, the 245-horsepower hybrid system can feel a bit underwhelming when fully loaded or when negotiating steep gradients. However, the drivetrain is smooth and unobtrusive in normal driving, and the addition of the rear electric motor provides some additional traction in poor weather, making the Sienna the perfect family hauler all year round.

VW I.D. Buzz

The Volkswagen ID. Buzz debuted in 2025, and in AWD trim features a dual-motor setup that delivers a combined 335 hp and an instant slug of EV torque that lets it blast from 0-60 mph in around 6.0 seconds. That makes it by far the quickest Minivan here.

The 91-kWh battery pack should allow for around 231 miles of range between charges, although this figure can vary greatly based on ambient temperatures and driving style.

On the plus side, the ID.Buzz offers iconic retro styling and a flat cabin floor, but it is priced way above the other two rivals here and sales have been so dismal that VW has paused new model sales for 2026 to get rid of its existing stock. For reference, the RWD Buzz comes in at $4,500 less. Hopefully the updated 2027 ID.Buzz will build on the current model’s plus points and come in at a lower price point, too.

AWD Minivans For The Win

With just three AWD minivans to pick from, and one skipping the 2026 model year, your choices are limited. The good news is that they all offer the same strengths that make owning a minivan such a pleasure, although each one offers enough of a twist on the formula to make it appeal to a different target market.

The VW ID.Buzz is a great EV that hasn’t quite captured the hearts of US buyers. High pricing allied with underwhelming real-world range prompted VW to skip the 2026 model year to shift existing stock and focus on updating the ID.Buzz for 2027. The new and improved model is now due to return only in 2028, so, for now we’d only recommend the current model as a nearly new used buy, thanks to the severe depreciation levels.

Of the two gas-powered models, the Sienna is the more fuel-efficient thanks to its standard hybrid powerplant. The AWD Pacifica can only be paired with the non-hybrid V6, which makes it more powerful but way thirstier. The Pacifica also has a more practical interior layout in AWD form, but for us, the Sienna takes the win as it is cheaper, promises lower overall running costs and still delivers enough performance and plenty of practicality.

The revived minivan could offer plug-in-hybrid and battery-electric powertrains on Toyota’s TNGA-K platform, replacing the original model’s distinctive mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout with a more conventional front-engine architecture.

Toyota has registered the Estima name in several markets, including the United States, but trademark activity doesn’t confirm that a production model is coming. The automaker hasn’t confirmed a North American launch, where the Sienna is its only minivan. Still, the reported formula makes sense: a sleek, more electrified people mover positioned above or alongside the conventional hybrid-only Toyota Sienna. If it happens, the new Previa could revive the original’s unique design spirit without repeating its unique mechanical layout.

The Original Previa in America

The first-generation Toyota Previa arrived in the U.S. for the 1990 model year and immediately stood apart from boxier domestic rivals. Its smooth, cab-forward profile earned it the “egg” nickname, while its engineering was even more unusual. Rather than mounting its engine in the front, Toyota positioned a 2.4-liter four-cylinder under the front seats, creating a mid-engine minivan with rear-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive.

The Previa’s rather unconventional packaging, high price, and limited power hurt its prospects in a minivan market dominated by Chrysler’s more traditional and roomier vans. It never sold in huge numbers, but it was deemed successful for a niche minivan. Toyota later added a supercharger, but it could not reverse the sales slide. U.S. sales peaked at roughly 52,000 units in 1991 before declining, and Toyota discontinued the Previa here after the 1997 model year. It remained available in other markets for much longer, eventually ending production in 2019.

Yet the Previa developed a loyal following. It was compact by current minivan standards, but its tall cabin, expansive glass area, and unconventional proportions gave it a uniquely airy feel. That combination of practical packaging and visual character is exactly what Toyota would need to recapture with a modern successor. A new Previa cannot simply be another three-row crossover with sliding doors; it needs a clear reason to exist beside the Sienna.

What the New Previa Could Be

Early reports describe the revived Previa as a global model with room for seven passengers and a choice of plug-in-hybrid and full-electric powertrains. The styling is expected to lean into the original Previa’s streamlined shape, potentially with inspiration from Toyota’s 2017 Fine-Comfort Ride concept—a futuristic, low-slung hydrogen-powered people mover with a large, flexible cabin.

The Previa would likely not replace the Sienna. Instead, it could serve as Toyota’s more progressive family hauler: more style-conscious, more aerodynamic, and available with charging capability. The Sienna, meanwhile, would remain Toyota’s traditional hybrid minivan. That distinction would give Toyota a practical two-model strategy, serving mainstream buyers with the Sienna while giving EV-curious families a more technologically ambitious alternative.

While many manufacturers have shifted attention toward SUVs, minivans retain important advantages for family use: sliding doors are easier to operate in tight parking spaces, entry height is lower for children and older passengers, and the body style generally provides more usable interior volume than a similarly sized crossover. A well-executed Previa could use those strengths while offering a more modern design than the segment traditionally delivers.

Platform and Powertrains

Reports suggest Toyota could use its flexible TNGA-K architecture, rather than the dedicated e-TNGA EV platform used by the bZ4X. TNGA-K already underpins the Sienna, Camry, Crown, and RAV4, and it could allow Toyota to sell both plug-in-hybrid and EV versions of the Previa from the same basic vehicle program. It would likely cost more than the Sienna but would have to come in significantly less than the unsuccessful and very expensive Volkswagen ID.Buzz, whose return has been pushed out to mid-2027.

The plug-in hybrid may draw from Toyota’s existing technology. One possibility is a version of the Prius Prime’s 220-horsepower system, though its 13.6-kWh battery may be too small for a larger three-row minivan. A setup closer to the RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid—with its 18.1-kWh battery—would be more plausible if Toyota wants useful electric-only range.

A battery-electric Previa could borrow hardware from the bZ4X, including its 71.4-kWh battery. But a larger, heavier seven-passenger minivan would likely need more capacity to deliver competitive driving range. The vehicle’s expected aerodynamically slippery body would aid efficiency, especially compared with a taller, squarer three-row SUV.

Final Thoughts

The biggest unknown is whether the Previa will reach America, even if Toyota builds it for international markets. Toyota already has the successful Sienna for our shores, and minivan demand is significantly less than the three-row SUV market. Still, a sleek plug-in minivan could appeal to families who want sliding-door practicality but also expect electric capability. For now, a new Previa remains a possibility but far from a confirmed model. If it arrives as described, it could bring back one of Toyota’s most memorable nameplates—and restore some fresh imagination to the minivan market.

Stellantis has published its third-quarter sales highlights, and the company described Q3 2026 as “steady” versus Q3 2025. The company reported that sales are up 3% across all brands under the Stellantis umbrella. In total, Stellantis sold 324,277 cars in Q3 this year.

“Against a highly competitive industry backdrop, we delivered a disciplined third quarter, supported by our motivated dealer network, which continued to drive our retail business,” said Michael Orange, Head of U.S. Retail Sales and Network Performance. “Retail sales increased for the Ram 1500 (+42%), Dodge Durango (+18%), Jeep Grand Wagoneer (+14%), and Chrysler Pacifica (+7%), while the Jeep Cherokee Hybrid posted its best retail sales month in September.”

Ram Leading the Charge

The Ram 1500 is leading the sales growth for Stellantis. New models and updates have helped the brand, as it reports total full-size pickup sales up 73% compared to Q3 of 2025. Ram’s total pickup sales also rose by 34% versus Q3 2025. Brand sales are also up 29% over Q3 2025.

New models and variants of the Ram 1500 have spurred interest in the brand, with notable releases like the 2027 Ram 1500 Rumble Bee 5.7L, which caused a buzz at Ram, selling out within 90 minutes of its release. For the lucky few who were able to order, the Rumble Bee will arrive at dealerships in Q4 of 2026.

Electrified Jeeps and Dodges Are Up, Chrysler’s Still (Only) Selling the Pacifica

Stellantis’ other hard hitters aren’t hitting as hard as Ram, though they’re putting up a respectable quarter. In Q3 this year, Jeep reports that Wrangler total sales are up 5% versus Q3 last year. Growth is growth, but the biggest improvement for the Jeep brand was the Q2 2026 vs. Q3 2026 Cherokee Hybrid retail sales growth of 53%. This was likely driven by higher fuel prices throughout the year.

Meanwhile, Dodge reported a modest 2% year-over-year increase. That’s quite a small number compared to Ram’s Q3 2026 vs. Q3 2025 figures. Still, the brand is doing better on micro metrics. The Dodge Charger retail sales have increased by 22% compared to Q3 2025, and the brand is also reporting that the Durango got its best Q3 total sales, finally topping the best Q3 the brand had in 2005.

Apart from that, Chrysler’s still selling the Pacifica, and it’s doing a steady job at it. Pacifica sales are actually up by 6% compared to the same time last year in 2025. It also appears Chrysler is only selling the Pacifica, as total brand sales are up 6% versus Q3 2025.

Italian Brands, Coming Soon

As expected after Stellantis decided to focus its efforts on most of its core brands, the Italian automakers under its wing are chill. No sales records have been reported for now, but the brands are moving.

For Fiat, the Topolino arrived in select dealerships in the U.S. in the third quarter of this year. This is great news because the model marks the first time Stellantis has entered the micromobility segment in the country.

Alfa Romeo has teased a new model for the 2026 Paris Motor Show and confirmed the Giulia and Stelvio buzz models will debut on October 12, 2026. It’s quiet for Stellantis’ Italian sector, but rest assured that new things are on the horizon for the two brands.

It’s no surprise that the minivan pioneer is the only American brand that still builds these family transporters. The Chrysler Pacifica is the only American-branded minivan in the market today. Then again, Chrysler is the minivan pioneer when it introduced the Dodge Caravan and Plymouth Voyager in late 1983. An actual Chrysler-badged model arrived in 1989 as the Town and Country.

Today, the Caravan is no more, and Plymouth has been gone for the last 25 years. Chrysler still makes a minivan, now called the Pacifica. It debuted in 2016 for the 2017 model year and, for nearly three years, has been the only model the brand has sold. It’s had a few updates over the years, but 2027 will bring big changes for the van. That also means 2026 is a relatively steady year for this model.

2026 Chrysler Pacifica Lease Deals for September

There is no nationwide lease deal for the 2026 Pacifica; rates depend on your state and area, so it’s worth checking Chrysler’s official website for deals near you. That said, some states have common offers, and it’s available for Select and Select AWD models.

One offer we saw was $423 for 42 months with $4,499 due at signing for the Select, while the all-wheel-drive version is $462 for 42 months with $4,499 due at signing. Mileage is limited to 10,000 per year, and you’re charged $0.30 per mile over. These offers are valid until September 30, 2026.

2026 Chrysler Pacifica Highlights

The 2026 Chrysler Pacifica is offered in three main trims and two drivetrain options. These trims are Select, Limited, and Pinnacle, all available with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is a $3,345 option, and prices range from $44,445 for a front-drive Select to $59,995 for a Pinnacle AWD.

For standard features, all Pacifica trims come with advanced driver assists, Uconnect infotainment, Chrysler’s proprietary (and clever) Stow’n’Go seats, power-sliding doors, and a power tailgate. But the highlight for 2026 is the addition of the 100th Anniversary Edition. Think of it as a limited-run trim that slots in between the Select and the Limited, creating a value model of sorts.

However, 2026 also marks the end of the plug-in hybrid model. That leaves just one engine option: the 3.6-liter V6 with 287 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. The 2027 models are coming to showrooms right about now after order books opened earlier this year.

Final Thoughts

Among its peers, the Pacifica is the most seasoned, having been around for a decade. However, it continues to defy its age and remains a strong contender in the minivan class, and it’s been the land’s best-selling family shuttle with sliding doors since 2022. It still manages to fend off the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna, and for those in the market for a minivan, this veteran minivan is still worth another look.

When the Volkswagen ID. Buzz was first presented as a concept in 2017, and it created a lot of, well, buzz. Its design was clearly inspired by the Type 2 Microbus, and it oozed nostalgic themes here and there. More surprisingly, VW actually went ahead with its production, and it was meant to be an EV from the start.

Production commenced in 2022, with Europe being the first market to get it. However, the U.S. had to wait until the 2025 model year to get it. But for all the hype, sales weren’t spectacular, to say the least. Its first full year of sale saw just 6,140 cars leave the dealer lots in 2025. Then, Volkswagen pulled the plug on the ID. Buzz after just one model year in the U.S., but vowed it’ll return in 2027.

Gap Year

Volkswagen said that it won’t be selling the ID. Buzz in the U.S. for the 2026 model year. At the time, that decision was made to clear out inventory, which was another way of saying it wasn’t quite selling as well as the company hoped. Again, it was slated to return for 2027, but those plans have been pushed back yet again.

According to a report from Automotive News, the electric retro minivan will relaunch sometime in the first half of 2027 instead of fall 2026. That makes it a 2028 model year vehicle instead of a ’27. If it’s any consolation, at least it’s coming out some time next year, but that also means the ID. Buzz skips yet another model year. Logically, the next question would be: Why the delay?

Well, Volkswagen didn’t say much other than ‘The 2028 ID Buzz brings together meaningful customer-focused enhancements in a single launch, further elevating the ownership experience and strengthening the vehicle’s appeal.’ It doesn’t really answer anything, but for those who missed their chance to buy one the first time, it’s something to hold on to.

What to Expect

VW promised a host of changes to the ID. Buzz. Some of it includes more physical controls on the steering wheel, a NACS charging port (with a CCS adapter), and a new Tourer model aimed at camper types. We can also expect new infotainment software, enhanced vehicle-to-load capabilities, and a one-pedal driving mode.

A Pro S 4Motion model will also be added, and all-wheel drive will be an option for the Tourer. That said, the biggest criticism of the ID. Buzz was its price. Before it was pulled from showrooms, it carried a base price of $59,995. The Cargo comes standard with just two or one seat, but for $2,055 you can get the crew van package with a 5-occupant layout.

For nearly 30 years, the Toyota Sienna has been a vanguard of the minivan market. Despite the ever-growing popularity of crossovers and SUVs, the Sienna has stood strong over the decades, and getting one today has become a bit anti-establishment. That’s quite a feat, given the ‘uncool’ image it was stuck with for so long. Maybe that Swagger Wagon ad did help.

The Sienna is now in its fourth generation, and the current model debuted in 2020 for the 2021 model year. It was quite the shift from the very familiar third-gen, particularly in the powertrain department. It’s impressive how it still looks fresh after six years in production, and the 2026 model hasn’t even received a facelift. Instead, it gets a couple more enhancements for this model year.

It now gets a power tailgate, window shades for the second- and third-row seats, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, a windshield de-icer, and an eight-speaker sound system. Meanwhile, the XLE now gets black roof rails, and the XSE comes standard with a 12-speaker JBL sound system.

You can choose any powertrain you want in the Sienna for as long as it’s a hybrid. More specifically, the only option is the 2.5-liter hybrid with a combined system output of 245 hp. What makes the Sienna unique is that all-wheel drive is available with the hybrid powertrain, and it’s standard on the Woodland Edition.

The interior is finished in amber porcelain white, said to draw inspiration from the painting “Rainy Landscape.” In fact, the interior features intricate embroidery that the automaker claims totals 136,000 stitches. Complementing the amber white are silver-lined wood trims and specially designed wool carpets. Other notable features include Nappa leather-lined seats and the first-ever rear-seat-priority Bose Executive Edition sound system.

A dated interior doesn’t make a car unworthy, just unattractive. 2026 Hyundai Venue

The 2026 Hyundai Venue is the cheapest car in America right now, and its cabin is pretty low rent as penance for the $20,550 base price. Everything works fine, but there’s no hiding the cheap plastic on the doors, dash, and center console The upright dashboard is functional, but its small central display looks glued in place.

The Venue attemps to make the cabin look fresh via the graphics on the seats, but that only goes so far when slabs of drab black plastica re everywhere. The Venue’s interior straightforward, which is a plus. The physical climate controls and conventional buttons make the car easy to use, versus controls relegated to touchscreen infotainment systems. Still, the overall presentation feels more like an early-2020s budget vehicle than a fresh 2026 offering.

2027 Dodge Durango

The long-in-the-tooth Durango is still the only three-row muscle SUV in the game. When we say old, we’re not kidding. The third-generation SUV has been around since 2011 with facelifts in 2014 and 2021. It’s aggressive-looking exterior, available V8 power, and useful towing credentials still draw buyers, but its dashboard architecture has roots in another era. The Dodge Durango’s interior is one of the clearest examples of a vehicle whose mechanical appeal has outlasted its cabin design. Step inside, and it’s a lot of chunky black plastics throughout. Even the shift knob, as good as it is to use, looks like a leftover from the early 2000s.

Its infotainment screen may be relatively large, 10.1″ running the latest Uconnect 5 system, yet the surrounding dash design, instrument cluster, chunky controls, and broad expanses of dark plastic are anything but modern. Newer competitors like the Ford Explorer and Kia Telluride have moved toward layered and linear dashboards, larger digital instrument panels, richer materials, and more open cabins. The Durango instead feels stubbornly old-school. Aside from having good physical controls, the interior is just dated.

2026 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport

The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is as old as dirt, and the interior is clear evidence of that. While the exterior has received three facelifts since 2011, the interior has only received one facelift consisting of updated technology. The minor change was not enough to bring the Outlander Sport’s interior to modern standards. The overly thick dashboard, gobs of dark plastic, and dated gauges contribute to the look that’s decidedly two decades old. Granted, the low price of $23,995 can justify some cheap materials, the design of the interior lags far behind competitors. Nobody’s going to get excited about spending time inside this thing.

The Outlander Sport remains a fundamentally simple vehicle for buyers who want uncomplicated transportation. The exterior is more chiseled after the last refresh, but get inside and you’re immediately transported to yesteryear. Most competitors. offer configurable digital displays, larger screens, wireless smartphone integration, better sound insulation, and cabins that look almost premium. The upcoming 2027 Kia Seltos make this look like the car from the Flintstones.

Chrysler Pacifica

After the 2027 refresh, the Chrysler Pacifica looks better on the outside. Is it just an oversight, then, that the cabin looks so very much the same? Of course, the Pacifica is one of the most successful minivans on the market, and it’s especially good for families that value flexible seating, clever storage, and the availability of a plug-in-hybrid powertrain. But its interior design is beginning to show its age.

The Pacifica’s dashboard is clean and usable, and there are solid physical controls for climate and audio, but something’s missing. The dash is too thick, the infotainment screen is embedded in the dash (versus in a panoramic frame), and those blue analog gauges are weird. There’s also way too much piano black plastic, an oversized steering wheel, and a center console that looks forgotten by time. Newer minivans like the restyled Toyota Sienna and Kia Carnival do it better and more contemporarily. This is another example of a refresh where something got missed.

2027 Toyota Corolla

The Corolla is about to get a new generation, thank goodness. As reliable and no-nonsense as the current car is, there’s no mistaking its interior for fresh and attractive. The Toyota Corolla is dependable, efficient, and easy to recommend as affordable and practical transportation, but the cabin is aging worse than its exterior. Even as Toyota has improved its infotainment and driver-assistance technology, the Corolla’s basic cabin architecture remains restrained, plain, extremely gray. Hard plastics abound, piano black is overused, and the physical controls look like they were pulled from Dollar General.

The dashboard design is overly thick and protruding, the center console is woefully devoid of good storage options, and the massive plastic bulkiness of the interior door cards is impossible to ignore. Seat cloth looks like it came from the ’90s, and the instrument cluster shroud and frame look old and mismatched. Perhaps the most glaring issue is the lack of openness in the cabin, something that the next-generation Corolla should remedy.

Final Thoughts

Carmakers are making interiors better and better with every generation. Even affordable cars like the Nissan Sentra and the Hyundai Tucson are pushing the envelope. But there are obviously ones still living in the past. As competitors introduce sharper displays, higher-quality materials, more advanced connectivity, and more polished cabin design, these models suffer from old designs, old tech, and old materials. Shoppers who place a high value on technology and ambience should compare them carefully with newer alternatives—while those who value familiarity and function may find that their old-school cabins easier to use, if nothing else.

What The California Cruise Actually Offers

The build adds a mattress, a fold-out table with two chairs, and blackout coverage on every window, along with a dedicated “California mode” that keeps power, lighting, and climate control running while the van is parked and unplugged — VW rates it for 48 hours of continuous HVAC use on a full charge. An electrochromic glass roof rounds out the package, switching between opaque and transparent at the touch of a button. Pricing lands roughly around $70,000 for a short-wheelbase Buzz Pro with a 79-kWh battery rated at up to 285 miles of range, a version the US doesn’t get in any form.

Buzz’s 2027 US return, borrowing the same fold-out mattress concept from Europe’s “Good Night Package.” Given that the current US long-wheelbase Buzz already starts just over $60,000, matching or beating the California Cruise’s roughly $70,000 price tag on a camping trim seems like a reasonable bar to clear — though after a wait that’s already stretched past what VW itself once called a rollout not coming “anytime soon,” reasonable expectations and Volkswagen’s actual pricing haven’t always lined up.

A Proper Step Up From the V-Class

The VLE rides on Mercedes’ new VAN.EA electric architecture, a clean break from the Vito-based EQV and the combustion V-Class it’s replacing. UK pricing is expected to start around £75,000 (roughly $100,000), with the single-motor VLE 300 producing 272 hp from a 115kWh battery pack and covering roughly 440 miles WLTP (approximately 320-340 miles on the U.S EPA cycle), while the dual-motor VLE 400 4Matic adds all-wheel drive and 416 hp. Both run on an 800-volt system capable of adding up to 220 miles of range in 15 minutes at a fast charger — figures pulled straight from Mercedes’ sedan and SUV lineup rather than a typical van’s spec sheet, and a notable jump over the outgoing EQV in every respect that matters.

The Segment Mercedes Wants to Create

Whether buyers in the UK — or the U.S., where the VLE isn’t expected until 2027 or 2028 — actually show up for either model remains to be seen. But Mercedes is clearly betting the segment’s ceiling is higher than its current sales figures suggest, in dollars or pounds.

Roadkill Nights is where you go for tire smoke and big horsepower. This year, Dodge did not disappoint, rolling out the 2027 Charger Super Bee – a 600-horsepower beast packing a twin-turbo 3.0-liter straight-six.

But it wasn’t just muscle cars and horsepower overload. Chrysler crashed the party with not one, but two Pacifica concepts – different from last year’s off-roader creation. And one of them? It actually makes the idea of a V-Series minivan sound less crazy than you’d think.

Both builds are Chrysler’s way of proving the Pacifica isn’t just for soccer practice and grocery runs. The brand says younger buyers are flocking to minivans, with Gen Z and Millennials up 143% in the last decade.

The VANkulture Pacifica Is the Interesting One

The real showstopper is the VANkulture Pacifica Concept, built with help from the minivan-obsessed crew at VANkulture. This thing takes the Pacifica way past anything you’ll find in a Chrysler showroom, with a look and hardware that mean business.

It wears a custom VIS Racing aero kit – front lip, side skirts, rear diffuser, and a decklid spoiler all included. The satin PPF wrap, black accents, and smoked headlights push the Pacifica straight into motorsport territory.

Underneath, things get even wilder. The Pacifica sits on 20-inch Vossen wheels with fat 275/40R20 Kenda track tires, plus Megan Racing coilovers (32-way adjustable, if you’re counting) and custom Swift Springs. The whole van drops by 2.5 inches, just to make sure you notice.

Stopping power comes from massive Rotora brakes – eight-piston calipers and 15.4-inch rotors up front, four-piston and 14-inch out back. A MagnaFlow exhaust makes sure everyone hears you coming.

Chrysler isn’t calling this a V-Series, at least not yet, plus it doesn’t come with any power bump. But if they ever want to slap a performance badge on the Pacifica, this is the blueprint – a sort of rival to the wilder Honda Odyssey Type R.

A More Subtle Pacifica Shows Another Direction

The second concept is a little more down to earth. Starting with a 2027 Pacifica Limited AWD and the S Appearance Package, Chrysler added some Mopar flavor but kept things tame enough that you could imagine it rolling off the assembly line.

It gets 21-inch Geode wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero summer tires, black brake calipers, a one-inch drop in ride height, red seat belts, and matte stripes from Mopar’s design team.

Neither of these is headed for production as a V-Series Pacifica. But the VANkulture build leaves us wondering: if Dodge gets performance Chargers, why shouldn’t Chrysler have a minivan that can keep up?

The minivan segment was conceived and born in America, catering to the needs of a rapidly growing nation at a time when SUVs were still too bulky and unrefined; the minivan was an easier-to-drive option for both mom and dad. While SUVs have caught up, the minivan market in the U.S. remains substantial, accounting for 2.4% of total vehicle market share.

Many major brands play in this field, with the Chrysler Pacifica and Toyota Sienna leading the way, but one major Japanese brand isn’t on the list. Nissan hasn’t sold a minivan in the U.S. since the Quest ceased production in 2009; however, it just refreshed its legacy Elgrand minivan for Japan, and it just might work in America too.

All-new Elgrand

The Nissan Elgrand is the Japanese automaker’s flagship minivan; it has always been the plusher option for moving multiple people, and as such, it goes up against the likes of the Toyota Alphard. Nissan has just pulled the covers off the latest Elgrand, and what makes it significant is that it marks the first all-new generation Elgrand in over 16 years, underscoring the growing market for luxury vans.

It was first unveiled to the public back in 2025, taking the whole design inspiration from the Hyper Tourer Concept that was showcased during the 2023 Japan Mobility Show. This latest Elgrand features the third-generation e-POWER hybrid system, coupled with the e-4ORCE all-wheel-drive layout. Also part of the plushness is Nissan’s Intelligent Dynamic Suspension, designed to enhance passenger comfort while elevating the overall driver experience. Nissan is so confident in the way it drives that the press release describes the journey as a grand-touring experience that will make you wish it would last longer.

The cabin is a vital aspect of the Elgrand, and Nissan has given it their all. It features a design trim with quilting that echoes the exterior Kumiko pattern, a traditional Japanese woodworking craft. Its instrument panel integrates the capacitive switches into a wood-grain-finish panel. A first for Nissan Japan is the use of a 14.3-inch integrated display screen. Surrounding the cabin is a 64-color ambient lighting system, while the seats can be finished in three variations: Dark on the X e‑4ORCE; Ginsetsu on the G e‑4ORCE, expressing the beauty of snow tinted by a faint dawn sky; and Shitan, accented with the purple and blue that signify Japanese nobility aesthetics.

The Elgrand isn’t just about looks and feel; modern luxury is also dictated by how the vehicle moves. Its next-generation e-POWER has an improved control unit that enhances fuel efficiency and quietness while on the move, while also delivering an engaging drive. The updated e-4ORCE system has been calibrated to reduce body roll during acceleration and braking, making everyday riding more comfortable.

A major aspect of luxury mobility is the serenity of the ride itself, and for the first time in Nissan’s history, they are debuting the Advanced Active Noise Control, which simultaneously reduces road and engine noise. Rounding out the Elgrand’s features are Nissan’s patented Zero Gravity seats for improved comfort and the ProPILOT ADAS system.

There are two variants of the Elgrand to be sold in Japan, with prices starting at $43,000 (converted) and topping out at $46,000 (converted).

Following the recall of more than 325,000 Honda Odysseys for a rearview-camera defect, the minivan is back on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) radar. This time, however, it is only a defect-petition review for now, covering 806,963 units from the 2011–2017 model years – essentially spanning the fourth-generation iteration, codenamed RL5.

According to the NHTSA review opened on July 13, the vehicles could experience inadvertent airbag deployment. It could happen even without the usual triggers, such as a crash, rollover, or a sufficiently strong G-force event. Such a failure could cause an injury or distract the driver, potentially leading to a collision.

Airbags Take Center Stage

The failure report summary lists only one incident, resulting in one injury and no fatalities. However, the petitioner cited 10 complaints alleging the same failure, suggesting it is not an isolated case, although the agency has yet to determine whether those complaints are related. The petition also alleges that the vehicle’s diagnostic trouble codes may conflict with information recorded by the Supplemental Restraint System, potentially creating an inaccurate record of the airbag system’s operation.

Again, this is only a technical review of the complaints. NHTSA will decide whether to grant the petition and launch a formal defect investigation or deny it.

Although NHTSA has not issued any special driving instructions or identified a specific trigger, owners may want to avoid potholes and hard road impacts where safely possible, and cross speed bumps slowly. They should try not to make sudden evasive maneuvers to avoid them. If an SRS or airbag warning light appears or an unusual diagnostic code is logged, the vehicle should be inspected as soon as possible.

The Story Is Still Developing

While this evaluation remains ongoing, the fifth-generation Odyssey (involving 2018–2022 models) was recently hit with a proposed class-action lawsuit over a similar airbag issue. Incorrect programming in their airbag control units can cause the side airbags to deploy during strong road impacts, such as potholes, speed bumps, or road debris.

The Odyssey has a generally strong reputation for reliability, even compared with rivals such as the Toyota Sienna and Chrysler Pacifica. However, issues like these can undermine owners’ confidence in an otherwise trusted family hauler.

When the minivan scene exploded in the ’80s, Toyota tried to ride the wave in the U.S by bringing the Lite Ace stateside and simply calling it the Van. It wasn’t exactly a smash hit and had a tendency to overheat due to its cab-over design. Toyota tried again with the Previa in 1990, and it proved to be a far more successful design.

It was sold in the U.S for the 1991 model year and lasted until 1997. Also known as the Estima in Japan and Tarago in Australia, it featured a mid-engined layout that maximized interior space, all while wrapped in an egg-like body that’s oh-so ’90s. The first generation was a collaboration between Japanese and American designers and would set the blueprint for future Toyota minivans.

No Direct Successors

In the U.S, the Previa was eventually replaced by the more conventional Sienna in 1998, but the model spawned two more generations outside of North America. The second-gen was produced from 2000 to 2005, moving the engine to the front along the way. The third and final iteration would run for a whopping 13 years from 2006 to 2019. It was effectively succeeded by the Alphard and Vellfire, which eventually spawned the Lexus LM. Quite the family tree, we say.

Since the Previa’s worldwide discontinuation, there hasn’t been a direct successor. That said, the Japanese market and a couple of others in Asia have alternatives to it. There are the aforementioned Alphard and Vellfire, along with the smaller, narrower Noah and Voxy. Those are actually pretty neat vans, but the slab-sided family buses are nothing like the egg-shaped Previa and Estima.

Potential Comeback

Now, a report from Japan has said that the Previa could return soon. In this case, it’s called Estima for the Japanese Domestic Market. According to MotorFan, it will serve as the more ‘driver-oriented’ family shuttle, whereas the Alphard is more for the chauffeured crowd.

Before anyone gets too excited, do note that Japanese reports tend to sound overly eager. That said, some reports published years earlier proved accurate, such as the return of the Pajero and Montero. Still, it’s good to be a little cautious.

Interestingly, though, Toyota has been going on a trademark spree with the JDM name of Estima. It was registered in Japan last year, as well as in the EU, the U.S, Australia, and New Zealand, to name a few. More recently, it was officially registered in Malaysia and Canada. Of course, this could simply be the company protecting its name, but it doesn’t rule out a comeback, either.

Bold Claims

Motor Fan goes so far as to claim that the revived Estima/Previa will likely come with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. It’s not totally far from reality, as Toyota makes PHEVs, although it’s a little too early to call it right now. The publication also speculated that the minivan will follow the form of its predecessors, but we doubt it’ll retain the mid-engined layout of the first generation.

But for the boldest claim, it has to be the premiere date itself. A concept model may be revealed at the 2027 Japan Mobility Show, followed by the production model in 2028. Admittedly, things look a little far-fetched right now, but it could also be the revival that might surprise us.

The Kia Carnival has quietly turned into one of the automaker’s biggest North American hits, so it’s no wonder the brand isn’t about to mess with a winning formula for 2027.

Kia just recorded its best June ever, with the Carnival Hybrid jumping a wild 54% and the whole Carnival family up 34% year-over-year. With buyers still lining up, Kia’s playing it safe for 2027. No wild redesigns or sticker shock here – just a handful of tweaks to keep the Carnival in the game and toss in a few extra creature comforts.

A Modest Price Hike

Most trims only see a $100 uptick – barely enough to notice. The SX trim gets a tiny bump too, but at least it throws in a bit more flexibility for your trouble. Even better, Kia left the destination charge untouched at $1,545, while other automakers quietly hiked theirs to sneak in extra costs.

If you’re cross-shopping model years, these tiny price hikes won’t scare you off. We’re talking less than 1% in most cases, so Kia stays right in the mix with Toyota, Honda, and Chrysler, even as costs creep up.

A Few Meaningful Updates for 2027

The real changes are in the features, not the price tag. For 2027, you can now spec second-row Captain’s Chairs on both EX and SX trims, so there’s more room to play with the cabin layout. Kia’s also rolled out a fresh Iceberg Green paint for EX, SX, and SX Prestige, but waved goodbye to Flare Red. Rear Seat Entertainment is now only for Hybrid SX Prestige models with VIP Lounge Seats, and if you want a sportier vibe, the Dark Edition Package now shows up on the EX trim too.

Tweaking the Carnival lineup rather than overhauling it is definitely the smart play here, especially given today’s market. Three-row SUVs might rule the sales charts, but families who favor comfort and daily practicality still have solid options. The Carnival stays right up there with the Toyota Sienna, Honda Odyssey, and Chrysler Pacifica, and these small updates should keep it quite competitive – without making buyers swallow a big price hike.

The legal headaches keep coming for Honda in 2026, and now the Honda Odyssey – the automaker’s family hauler – is back in the spotlight. The latest class action claims some Odyssey minivans have a faulty starting system that can leave drivers stranded in the middle of their daily routines.

This lawsuit isn’t just a rerun of Honda’s other legal troubles from earlier this year. This time, it’s all about a stubborn starting problem that owners say haunts 2018-2025 Odyssey models.

The complaint says owners are getting stuck after parking or when the Odyssey’s idle-stop system shuts off the engine at a red light. Instead of firing back up, the van might hesitate, refuse to crank, or force drivers to restart it themselves – sometimes while they’re stuck in the middle of traffic. Honda hasn’t said a word about the lawsuit yet.

What the Lawsuit Alleges

Filed in California, the lawsuit claims Honda sold Odysseys with a starting system that just doesn’t cut it. The problems? Weak battery charging, starter motors that wear out too soon, and a starter-to-flywheel setup that isn’t up to the job. According to the plaintiffs, all these issues can team up to leave the engine dead when you need it most.

According to the 132-page lawsuit, the defect shows up in two flavors: sometimes the Odyssey won’t restart after the Auto Idle Stop kicks in at a stoplight, and other times it just refuses to start after being parked – even if you just ran into the store. Owners say they’ve been left stranded at intersections, in parking lots, and pretty much anywhere you don’t want your minivan to quit.

Plaintiffs claim Honda knew about the problem, thanks to customer complaints, dealer reports, and technical bulletins. The company tried a few fixes – software updates here, a new starter there – but never rolled out a recall or a real solution for Odyssey owners. Now, the lawsuit is after damages, refunds, and anything else it can get for people stuck with the issue.

Another Entry on a Growing List

This Odyssey lawsuit is just the latest in a string of legal headaches for Honda this year, each one about a different problem. Earlier, Honda got sued over V6 engines with supposed bearing issues. Then came a class action about cameras that could knock out driver-assist features. And just last month, another lawsuit said some Odysseys had airbags that went off for no reason at all.

So far, none of these lawsuits have pinned anything on Honda, but together they show just how many problems the company is fighting in court right now. Like any class action, this latest case has to run the legal gauntlet before a judge decides if the claims stick or if the class gets certified.

Recalls on commercial vehicles can be an added burden, especially when they’re used to run businesses. That’s the reality for 26,541 potentially affected 2025–2026 Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana vans after General Motors issued a recall over a steering gear issue that, if left unfixed, could cause a loss of steering control and increase the risk of a crash.

According to NHTSA Recall No. 26V399, these vans may have been produced with a loose nut in the steering gear assembly. The defect stemmed from a part sensor at a supplier’s facility that malfunctioned, allowing some assemblies to pass inspection without the nut being properly tightened. Drivers may notice the problem through degraded steering precision or an off-center steering wheel when driving straight.

Three Decades Strong

The affected model years may be relatively new, but neither the Express nor the Savana has received a full redesign since 1996, effectively making them the oldest vehicles in their respective lineups. In GM’s defense, these models are mostly used by fleet operators, who often prefer reliability and proven engineering over the latest technology or creature comforts.

The specific units involved in the safety campaign include 6,389 units of the 2026 Chevrolet Express produced between September 30, 2025, and June 1, 2026; 14,615 units of the 2025 Express produced between January 21, 2025, and December 12, 2025; 751 units of the 2026 GMC Savana produced between October 21, 2025, and June 1, 2026; and 4,786 units of the 2025 Savana produced between January 21, 2025, and October 29, 2025. Only about 1% of the recalled vans are estimated to have the defect.

So far, GM is not aware of any crashes or injuries related to the steering gear defect. However, the automaker received nine field reports potentially related to this condition. Affected owners will be advised to bring their vans to a dealer for inspection and, if necessary, to have the steering gear assembly replaced.

Still On The Job

GM will start notifying affected owners on August 10, 2026, and noted that there will not be a reimbursement program because the vehicles are still under warranty.

For the 2027 model year, the Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana are reportedly being carried over, further extending their current production run to more than three decades without a full redesign. This recall is not really a sign that the vans are getting old, but rather points to a supplier-side quality-control lapse.

About Kia’s PV5

So, what exactly is the U.S. market missing? The PV5 is not just another retrofitted cargo box. It is a dedicated platform designed to swap body configurations. It can be built with a multi-seat passenger layout, or even with a high-roof to be a cargo hauler, on a standardized chassis. It undercuts established rivals like the Volkswagen ID. Buzz and Ford E-Transit, both of which are priced at over $50,000, with a starting price equivalent to roughly $39,200. Featuring both NCM and LFP battery options, the PV5 managed to capture 9% of the light commercial EV market in Europe within six months of its launch.

That runaway success is the direct cause of the current bottleneck. Kia is not facing a traditional parts shortage; this is a supply allocation crisis driven by rabid international demand. The automaker moved over 10,000 units of its record-breaking van in Europe alone since late 2025 and ranks as a top-selling EV in South Korea. The van is proving so popular that Kia is now actively rationing its export supply to new markets.

Not Enough Supply

In regions just now receiving the PV5, local executives are publicly managing expectations. Kia Australia’s management recently admitted they are capped at a conservative target of just 50 units per month, despite heavy lobbying by dealers for more inventory. “Supply will be one of the things that we’ve got to juggle, because globally it’s a success,” noted Roland Rivero, Kia Australia’s product planning chief.

Where does that leave the American market? Empty-handed. While the PV5 is slated to hit Canada by late 2026—equipped with a North American Charging Standard (NACS) port—Kia has confirmed it currently has no plans to introduce the van to the U.S. Even if Kia wanted to bring it stateside, the ongoing global rationing proves they lack the manufacturing bandwidth to supply the massive American commercial sector with its new lineup of vans. For now, U.S. operators will have to settle for the expensive, traditional alternatives while the rest of the world fights over Kia’s limited inventory.

Electric vehicle (EV) acceleration is immediate and constant, but this amplifies any chassis harshness. In contrast, internal combustion engine (ICE) cars have engine vibration and gear shifts that tend to mask low-speed ride imperfections. Without these distractions, EVs are more mechanically exposed to road surfaces, and suspension tuning is more noticeable. Simultaneously, EV’s significant battery mass and low center of gravity heighten ride tuning challenges, and battery weight (along with poorly damped chassis) caused vertical bounce and secondary ride motions, such as choppiness. Engineers had to adapt and control EV body motions without overly stiff spring and damper rates, particularly at low speeds where sharp inputs are more apparent. In response, the EV makers strived for ultra-controlled body motion rather than acceptable ride comfort, and this effort has influenced the greater auto industry. 

Heavier batteries forced engineers to rethink ride comfort from the ground up

In general, the larger an EV battery is, the more energy it can store and the heavier it is. Higher vehicle curb weights often lead to stiffer springs and firmer damping, which can be problematic for EVs. Stiffer springs raise frequencies and worsen the primary ride, making transmissions from instances like bumps harsher, while firmer damping hurts secondary EV ride quality with higher frequency inputs in the cabin, like when driving over small cracks. Part of the core EV engineering challenge is balancing structural support with compliance over small road imperfections, which has made tire sidewall stiffness a critical factor. A stiffer sidewall helps control an EV’s extra heft and tire deformation during directional changes.

Additionally, air and multi-link suspension systems have become more common in EV platforms. Air suspension auto-leveling compensates for battery weight and shifting loads to maintain performance consistency, and lowering an EV’s body at highway speeds reduces aerodynamic drag for more range. Multi-link suspension handles higher EV weights by reducing body roll and improving cornering stability through a minimum of three control arms per wheel. In comparison, simpler suspension systems, like the MacPherson strut, use one or two arms per wheel. Skateboard EV architectures, platforms that house batteries, motors, and suspension in a flat, skateboard-like chassis, complement multi-link suspension systems in EVs by putting the heaviest component, the battery, as low as possible. A battery that’s inches from the ground reduces body roll and improves handling. Skateboard EV architectures also spread the battery across the floor for a 50/50 balance from front to rear.

Silence became the new luxury benchmark that exposed suspension flaws

With road and suspension noise like small vibrations being more noticeable in earlier EVs, engineers had an opportunity for refinement, and the idea of cabin serenity as luxury took firmer hold. Making things quieter in newer EVs requires balancing wind, road, and powertrain noise. Prime examples of solutions include advanced acoustic insulation materials, active noise cancellation systems, aerodynamic enhancements, and enhanced tire technology. Advanced acoustic insulation materials in EVs are lightweight and target high-frequency motor whine and road noise. Active noise cancellation technology in EVs works similarly to noise-canceling headphones, using microphones and speakers to generate counteracting sounds to reduce unwanted noise. Regarding aerodynamic enhancements, examples of design choices that minimize wind noise include active air-vent controls and digital cameras replacing side mirrors. Manufacturers mitigate tire road noise with technologies such as foam inserts that absorb vibrations, tread patterns that reduce rolling noise, and newer rubber compounds that reduce contact noise.

EV ride quality became a system-level coordination problem

Softness is vital to overall comfort, but so are controlled movement and stability, and in earlier EVs, improving vertical motion management became especially significant. When evaluating vertical motion, aspects such as secondary oscillations and rebound behavior are key. Earlier EVs had less sophisticated chassis technology because they had extra battery weight and were based on ICE platforms rather than innovations like skateboard architecture. Alongside lower center of gravity and specialized active suspension systems, unified chassis control (UCC) has played a central role in improving vertical motion. According to an MDPI Sensors study, UCC optimizes vertical motion in EVs by coordinating multiple actuators, addressing wheel vibrations that destabilize heavy platforms. Primary chassis actuators include motors, steering, and suspension. For example, UCC can make sure torque from one wheel doesn’t make the suspension bounce while steering pulls the other way. The result is controlled vertical motion and ride stability existing despite greater average mass.

The EV era turned ride quality into a defining competitive battleground

EV’s evident ride flaws early in the segment’s evolution led to a reset in engineering comfort. While ICE cars didn’t completely overlook convergence, engineers realized how essential convergence was to EV ride quality refinement. Compared to ICE cars, EVs have fewer masking variables, stronger cross-system interactions, and a bigger software role, so the tighter these systems work together, the higher the ceiling for ride quality. The meticulous mission to optimize ride quality has expanded beyond EVs to the entire auto industry. In 2025, the global automotive NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) materials market was valued at $18.4 billion, and it’s expected to grow to $29.6 billion by 2034, according to Dataintelo. The Mercedes-Benz Metris was the brand’s commercial and passenger van in the U.S., slotted beneath the Sprinter. In Europe, it’s known as the Vito, but its luxury-oriented passenger-carrying versions, with a few more luxuries, are called the V-Class. The Vito and V-Class have been in production since 2014 and landed in the U.S as the Metris in 2016.

Offered in both cargo and passenger derivatives, the Metris was more like the Vito, as it lacked the usual luxuries found in stateside Mercedes-Benz models. It was discontinued in North America after the 2023 model year, leaving Mercedes-Benz without a midsize van for the last three years. It’s a unique kind of van in the U.S., as none of its European competitors have crossed the Atlantic.

A New Age of Mercedes Vans

The Vito and V-Class are still available in Europe and in some parts of the world, but Mercedes-Benz introduced its new-generation van a few months ago. Dubbed the VLE, it was first previewed as the Vision V in 2025, and it has been confirmed that it will come to America in 2027 for the 2028 model year.

In case you’re wondering, the VLE is nothing like the Metris. If anything, to call it the successor to that van might be a little odd. There are two key reasons for that: the first is that it’s all-electric. Secondly, it’s no gussied-up cargo van as it prioritizes luxury over outright carrying ability.

Two Motors to Choose From

Mercedes-Benz USA has released preliminary specs of the luxury van, as well as the two likely models coming soon. These are the VLE 300 and VLE 400 4Matic, differing in drivetrain and in power output.

Both come with an 115 kWh battery, although the front-drive VLE 300 produces 272 hp. The all-wheel-drive VLE 400 4Matic adds a second motor, boosting output to 409 hp. Mercedes-Benz claims the VLE 300 can do over 400 miles on a single charge, but estimates for the more potent version have yet to be revealed.

Interestingly, towing capacity was also mentioned, at least for the VLE 400 4Matic. In this case, it’s 5,000 lbs, although don’t expect it to match the factory-claimed range.

Creature Comforts

If you take a look at the cabin photos of the VLE, you can see that it has luxuries and more space than the S-Class can only wish for. Thanks to its upright profile and seats that slide and swivel, there is ample stretch-out room inside. Seating capacities range from 6 to 8 passengers. In this car, the fewer the seats, the plusher it gets.

The van can be specified with an electric Grand Comfort Seat. That adds an additional pillow, armrests, cupholders, wireless charging, lumbar support, massage function, and calf support. Also available is a retractable 31.3-inch panoramic display serving as rear-seat entertainment. The Sky View panoramic glass roof is also there for those who prefer viewing scenery over videos.

For those in front, there are three screens on the dash courtesy of the MBUX Superscreen. It includes a 10.25‑inch driver display, a 14‑inch infotainment screen in the middle, and another 14‑inch display for the front passenger. The front passenger can also stream videos, use apps, or play games with their dedicated screen.

This Isn’t Even the Most Luxurious Version Yet

If the available amenities already sound overwhelming, do note that the VLE is the junior model in Mercedes-Benz’s luxury van range. Coming soon is the Mercedes-Maybach VLS, and we’re expecting the luxuries to be downright extravagant.

We say expecting because Mercedes has yet to share more details about the Maybach van. All we know is it’ll be more opulent than the VLE, and prices could start at around $200,000. The company dubs it a ‘Grand Limousine,’ and with its Maybach label, we won’t be questioning that.

The minivan had a huge role in saving Chrysler in the ’80s. Nowadays, it’s the very thing that’s keeping it afloat. Ever since the 300 was discontinued, the Pacifica has been the brand’s sole offering for about three years. No, we’re not counting the soon-to-be-axed Voyager as it’s essentially a decontented pre-facelift Pacifica.

A decade has passed since the first Pacifica minivan rolled out. It received a major facelift for the 2021 model year and has undergone a few minor updates since then. 2026 is no different, but 2027 has far more substantial changes.

2026 Chrysler Pacifica Lease Deals for June

The Select trim of the Pacifica has a pair of lease deals available this June. We say a pair of deals, as there are offers on both the front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions of the minivan. For the Select front-wheel drive, it’s $421 for 36 months with $4,499 due at signing, while the all-wheel drive is $460 for 36 months, also with $4,499 due at signing.

Mileage is limited to 10,000 per year, and a penalty of $0.30 per mile applies for every mile beyond that. These offers are valid until June 30, 2026.

2026 Chrysler Pacifica Highlights

The 2026 Chrysler Pacifica is offered in three trims, all of which are available with all-wheel drive. These trims are Select, Limited, and Pinnacle, with prices ranging from $44,445 (Select FWD) to $59,935 (Pinnacle AWD). Opting for all-wheel drive means paying a $3,345 premium for added traction.

The big news for the 2026 Pacifica is the 100th Anniversary Edition. It slots somewhere between the Select and the Limited and adds unique touches and additional standard equipment over the entry-level model. Also, the hybrid model has been discontinued, and it won’t be returning for the 2027 model. That leaves just one powertrain option for the Pacifica, and it’s the familiar 3.6-liter V6 that makes 287 hp and 262-lb ft of torque.

Final Thoughts

It’s not the freshest minivan on the block, nor does it offer the widest variety of trims. Despite that, the Pacifica defies its age by being the country’s best-selling minivan, managing to fend off the Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey. We can best describe the Chrysler as something that does the job as a family shuttle, and that’s not a bad thing at all.

The Honda Odyssey used to be the top dog in the small minivan segment… back in 2009. The current and fifth-gen Odyssey has never been the top seller since its introduction in 2018, and this design is now getting dated in its ninth year without any major changes. It’s starting to be come the skinny jeans of the minivan set.

So, will the Odyssey continue to go unchanged? Honda Motor Co. placed an aggressive bet on electric vehicles, but that strategy has now been upended. What once looked like a bold push toward EVs has turned into a $15.8 billion setback, and Honda has since canceled models such as the 0-Series SUV, 0-Series Saloon, and the Acura RSX. The huge financial setback was the impetus behind the decision to delay redesigns of the Accord, HR-V, and the Odyssey until 2030. That means the Odyssey would be 13 years old before seeing its sixth generation.

The fifth-generation Odyssey debuted in 2018 as a well-rounded package. Kia even added an efficient hybrid variant in 2025, something the Odyssey won’t even offer for its latest version. The Carnival and Carnival Hybrid aren’t the most capacious minivans in the segment, but it has the most modern interior you’ll find.

Where the Odyssey Feels Dated

Toyota made its current generation hybrid only. Chrysler had a PHEV for a few years. Kia just debuted a hybrid version of its minivan. But not the Odyssey. The Odyssey’s naturally aspirated V6 is smooth and capable, but it now feels woefully behind the times. Fuel economy, once a secondary consideration for minivan buyers, has become a primary factor—and this is where the Odyssey lags behind the others. 22 mpg combined gets handily beat by the Sienna (36 mpg combined) and the Carnival Hybrid (33 mpg combined).

The Caravelle and California eHybrid 4MOTION feature an upgraded stationary climate system capable of cooling or heating the cabin for up to eight hours while parked or charging, while the California campervan retains the traditional, fuel-operated auxiliary heater for uninterrupted use.

As for safety, the new Volkswagen Caravelle offers an enhanced “Travel Assist System” which now incorporates automated lane-changing and traffic light recognition.

Will Americans Get The Caravelle?

In short, no. Volkswagen has drawn a firm line in the sand regarding its commercial vehicles. American buyers are exclusively getting the fully electric ID. Buzz to satisfy their retro-bus cravings. The gas-powered and PHEV T7 models—including the Caravelle and the California campervan—remain locked out of the US market. If it were to cross the Atlantic, it wouldn’t be cheap. Based on UK pricing, the outgoing Multivan started around $63,000. For a fully loaded eHybrid 4MOTION Caravelle, American buyers would easily be looking at a sticker price well over $80,000.

The return of the Caravelle label proves that heritage matters, and automakers are willing to admit when a rebranding experiment fails. It’s just a bitter pill to swallow knowing the most capable VW bus on the market remains strictly European property.

Calling Honda’s recent J35 V6 saga ‘messy’ barely scratches the surface. It all kicked off in late 2023, when Honda recalled nearly 250,000 cars packing certain versions of the 3.5-liter V6. The list included 2018-2019 Honda Odyssey, plus a handful of Pilots, Ridgelines, Acura TLXs, and MDXs.

However, those weren’t the end of it. NHTSA soon launched a bigger investigation – this time, 1.4 million Honda and Acura vehicles were under the microscope for engine failures. Owners weren’t thrilled with how the recall was handled, either, and that frustration boiled over into a class-action lawsuit.

One of these unlucky engines landed on the bench at I Do Cars, a YouTube channel that loves a good engine autopsy. This one came out of a 2020 Odyssey with about 85,000 miles. It’s a J35, so you’d think the recall would have the owner covered. Not so fast. So, what gives?

Everything Looked Fine Until The Oil Pan Came Off

At first, the Odyssey’s V6 looked like it had plenty of life left. Spark plugs? Healthy. Valve train? Cleaner than you’d expect. Both cylinder heads seemed well cared for, and even the timing bits and original water pump looked decent for an engine with 85,000 miles under its belt.

However, a few red flags popped up. The engine had clearly been left out in the elements after removal – rust and moisture had crept into the combustion chambers. And then there was the gaping hole in the oil pan, which the host figured probably happened after the engine was yanked.

The real story started once the oil pan came off. A mess of copper-colored metallic shrapnel was found inside. Digging deeper, the rod bearings showed the same kind of wear Honda flagged in its recall. But things got uglier: the main bearings were chewed up, the crankshaft’s main journals were worn down, and the thrust bearing looked like it had been through a war.

Oddly enough, the oil pump and upper valvetrain didn’t show the telltale signs of a total oil starvation meltdown. As mentioned in the video, that mismatch could mean that this engine wasn’t just dealing with one problem but two.

Why This Engine Likely Fell Outside The Recall

By the end of the teardown, it was clear this wasn’t your run-of-the-mill recall bearing failure. The story was a lot messier. Sure, the rod bearings had the kind of wear Honda called out in the recall. But the worst damage was in the main bearings and the thrust bearing. According to I Do Cars, that kind of carnage usually points to a major oil-loss event somewhere along the way.

The theory is that the oil pan got punctured while the engine was still running, dumping oil and wrecking the lower end before anyone could hit the kill switch. If that’s what happened, it explains why this Odyssey needed a new engine – and why Honda’s recall didn’t pick up the tab.

With custom car builds, imagination is often the only real limit. That does not mean every project will be free from criticism, especially from enthusiasts, and there is always the question of budget. Still, an outrageous build does not always require the most expensive upgrades. Sometimes, creativity and determination can go a long way, and this 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan with a massive engine proves exactly that.

To be more specific, this Dodge minivan is powered by a 5.3-liter LS-based truck V8 paired with a twin-turbo setup and a Tremec TKX-600 5-speed manual gearbox. The forced-induction system was said to be sourced cheaply from eBay. According to the builder, Savage Racing NW, each turbo is rated to support around 500 horsepower. More than the power itself, though, the build stands out because it turns an otherwise ordinary minivan into something guaranteed to grab attention.

Reliability Before Boost

However, the minivan is not necessarily built for the street. It is being turned into a drift build, so it likely spends more time on the track. The boost was set at just 5 psi, but the builder planned to raise it to 10 psi.

The engine still uses a stock camshaft, though it has been fitted with an upgraded oil pump, upgraded lifters, and trunnion bearing rockers. According to the builder, these upgrades were added to improve reliability. It also uses a blow-off valve and wastegates from VS Racing, which he suggested are parts that should not be cheaped out on.

The setup is managed by a Holley Terminator X ECU and also features Holley 700-hp injectors and a Holley Sniper 85mm throttle body. The minivan is currently limited to 6,000 rpm to stay on the conservative side and avoid blowing the motor. After all, the builder said he has already replaced four engines in this project.

Borrowing From Drift Royalty

As for the chassis setup, the build uses a custom crossmember modeled after the Nissan 240SX, along with cheap polyurethane mounts from eBay. Up front, it uses modified 240SX suspension, including extended lower control arms and custom-modified knuckles. The rear uses a Winters quick-change differential salvaged from an oval-track car, paired with a three-link suspension setup.

Not only do 240SX parts have strong aftermarket support, but the nameplate is also a popular platform in the drift world. The steering rack was initially supposed to come from the 240SX as well, but the builder later decided to use the Grand Caravan’s original rack because it offered more steering angle.

This build may not use the fanciest hardware, but sometimes, the strangest combinations make the loudest statement, and that is especially apparent when a minivan built for family hauling is ripping around a drift track.

The Olinia Uno Is Tiny, But It Can Seat Six People

Named after the Nahuatl word for mobility, the Olinia is powered by a 14.7-kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery pack that offers a limited range of up to 77 miles. The battery powers a 13-kilowatt (17-hp) motor that enables a limited top speed of 30 miles per hour. Since the Uno is a city-only EV and most urban trips in Mexico are under 18 miles, the low range shouldn’t be a problem.

The EV, which adopts the shape of a boxy minivan and is positioned as a practical city vehicle and a possible taxi option for city dwellers, is only 137.4 inches long and 57.5 inches wide. It can be charged via standard wall outlets—both 110V and 220V—and takes between 4 and 8 hours to charge using these sources.

However, it’s also compatible with the NACS standard, which means it can be charged at Tesla Superchargers in only a few minutes. The no-frills EV is also fitted with accessibility features like wheelchair accommodation and IP67 water resistance, which should come in handy in Mexico’s rainy season.

The Olinia Uno was developed by Mexico’s National Polytechnic Institute and the National Technological Institute of Mexico under the coordination of Mexico’s science and technology ministry. Mind you, Daihatsu didn’t say it’ll fit nine comfortably, but if carrying that many people is the only objective, then the Gran Max Minibus’ efforts should count for something.

The Gran Max does have front airbags and stability control, but the vehicle’s safety is largely dependent on the driver’s skill. Ojai manages to bypass any restrictions on Chinese vehicles because while Zeekr makes the car, the telematics and connected software systems are all developed in the US.

The Ojai’s public rollout is set to begin within weeks, with early access initially limited to a small group of riders in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Phoenix, according to Fox News. Waymo will use this first phase as a real-world proving ground, offering complimentary rides while it collects user feedback and fine-tunes the service before a broader launch. The company has already identified Denver, Las Vegas, and San Diego as the next destinations on its expansion roadmap. Those keen to get an early look can register through the Waymo app and apply to join the Trusted Tester programme.

Buying a used vehicle can be a smart way to save money, but not every bargain is worth the risk. My family has two used vehicles that have had practically zero issues, and we just do oil changes, tire rotation, brakes, and other routinely necessary maintenance and replacement tasks. We also did our fair share of homework on brands and models that were reliable. This makes it worth buying used, letting the first owner take the hit.

But there are vehicles plagued with problems, making them ones to definitely avoid. Some models have developed reputations for poor reliability, expensive repairs, quality-control issues, or ownership headaches that can quickly erase any savings you thought you had made. While every vehicle can have good and bad examples, these five used models should be evaluated closely by potential buyers.

Chevrolet Tahoe

The Chevrolet Tahoe has long been one of America’s most popular full-size SUVs. It’s big, spacious, powerful, and attractive. On the other hand, there are certain used examples that can become financial burdens as mileage climbs. The current generation has been subject to a number of recalls. The most signficant one appled to the 2021-2024 model years, impacting more than 600,000 Tahoes.

These Tahoes with the optional 6.2-liter V8 were recalled due to defects involving internal engine components, including the connecting rods and the crankshaft. Some were known to incur engine damage, a loss of power, or even total engine failure. Some of the recalls resulted in a complete engine replacement. These are not issues you want to deal with on a vehicle this pricey and one of the brand’s top-tier SUVs.

Jeep Renegade

The Jeep Renegade promised rugged styling and Jeep heritage in a compact package, but it struggled to live up to expectations even in the most basic of ways. It was plagued throughout its short 2015-2023 production run. Many owners have reported electrical glitches, infotainment system problems, engine issues, and transmission complaints. The Renegade’s nine-speed automatic transmission has been a particular source of frustration, with reports of rough shifting, hesitation, and inconsistent behavior. The turbocharged version also has a reputation for excessive oil consumption. No bueno.

There were also numerous build quality issues resulting in rattles squeaks, rear hatch closure problems,e tc. Beyond reliability concerns, the Renegade’s resale values often lag behind competitors, making it difficult to recover your investment. Buyers shopping for a small crossover will typically find more dependable alternatives from Honda, Toyota, and Mazda. The Renegade was a poor attempt at capturing buyer’s attention in this segment, despite the fact that it looked like a tiny Wrangler. It wasn’t enough to help it survive, and you should steer clear.

Mitsubishi Outlander Sport

The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is the mid-tier SUV from the three-diamond brand. This compact SUV has remained largely unchanged for years, and that aging design has become one of its biggest drawbacks. Its base price new is cheap ($24,995), and it often feels outdated compared with newer competitors. The standard engines deliver modest performance, and the continuously variable transmission (CVT) has generated concerns among some owners regarding long-term durability. Interior materials, technology, and safety features also tend to lag behind competitors from the same model years.

Perhaps the biggest issue is value. Even when purchased at a discount, the Outlander Sport often offers fewer features, lower refinement, and weaker resale value than many competing compact SUVs. On top of that, the model is way overdue for a redesign, so even models a couple of years old already look and feel dated. Buyers can usually find a better overall ownership experience elsewhere.

Rivian R1T

The Rivian R1T is one of the most impressive electric trucks ever built, but early-production models carry risks that many used-car shoppers should consider carefully. As a startup automaker, Rivian experienced numerous growing pains during its first years of production. Early R1Ts were subject to multiple recalls and service campaigns addressing issues ranging from suspension components and steering systems to software-related concerns. Build quality was not a strong suit early on, and many buyers experienced issues with exterior panel alignment, creaks and rattles, and hardware or suspension problems.

Another challenge is service availability. Unlike established manufacturers with extensive dealer networks, Rivian relies on a more limited service infrastructure. In higher trims, like the Pinnacle, it’s a truly opulent and impressive cabin experience. Owners have reported issues with the hybrid system, charging components, electrical systems, and transmission problems. Several recalls over the years have also raised concerns among used-car buyers. Most notably, the Pacifica Hybrid has been recalled for battery fire risk, unexpected power loss due to faulty wiring/software problems, and even brake failure.

Repairs can be particularly expensive because of the vehicle’s complex plug-in hybrid powertrain. When something goes wrong outside of warranty coverage, repair bills can quickly climb into the thousands. For families seeking a dependable used minivan, the potential savings at the gas pump may not outweigh the risk of costly repairs and extended downtime.

Final Thoughts

Not every example of these vehicles will be problematic, and many owners have enjoyed years of trouble-free driving. However, the Chevrolet Tahoe, Jeep Renegade, Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, 2022–2023 Rivian R1T, and Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid all carry concerns that should make buyers proceed with caution. The good news is that there are plenty of better options out there.

Before purchasing any used vehicle, invest in a thorough pre-purchase inspection, review the vehicle’s maintenance history, and research common problems associated with the specific model year. If you’re hell-bent on getting one of these models, make sure the recall work has been performed. A little extra homework today can save you from a very expensive mistake tomorrow.

Minivans aren’t everywhere like they used to be, but the Honda Odyssey still stands out as a go-to name for families. Since the mid-90s, it’s earned its stripes for being practical, comfortable, and unexpectedly easy to drive for something that hauls eight people plus their stuff. These days, it sits right up there with the Pilot and CR-V in Honda’s family lineup, aimed at buyers who still want sliding doors and a cabin that can handle just about anything.

For 2026, the Odyssey rolls on mostly unchanged after last year’s update, but Honda is making a push with new lease deals for buyers who don’t want to shell out for a full purchase. Right now, you can lease an Odyssey through Honda Financial Services with monthly payments that won’t break the bank.

Pricing starts at $44,290 for the EX-L and tops out at $53,190 for the Elite.

Honda’s Lease Deals for May

Honda’s main lease deal is for the 2026 Odyssey EX-L, which is the entry trim but still packs plenty of standard features. The offer runs through July 6, 2026, for qualified buyers.

The deal is for a 36-month lease with 10,000 miles per year and $3,999 due at signing. It’s also open to current owners of select Honda or rival models from 2011 or newer.

Keep in mind, the advertised price doesn’t include taxes, registration, dealer fees, or extras like premium paint. Final payments can also change depending on the dealer.

If you’re cross-shopping with the Toyota Sienna, Kia Carnival, or Chrysler Pacifica, the Odyssey stands out for its solid safety features and a second row that’s actually flexible without making you pay for a higher trim.

2026 Honda Odyssey Highlights

The Odyssey still skips hybrid power and all-wheel drive, but it’s a well-rounded package. Every 2026 model gets a 3.5-liter V6 with 280 horsepower and a 10-speed automatic driving the front wheels.

Honda claims the Odyssey does 0-60 in about 6.4 seconds, which puts it among the quicker gas minivans out there. EPA ratings are 19 mpg city and 28 mpg highway, which is solid for a V6 family hauler.

Inside, flexibility is still the Odyssey’s ace. The Magic Slide second row lets you set up the cabin however you need, and the third row folds flat into the floor. Cargo space is still among the best in the class.

Tech is strong across the board. Every Odyssey gets a 9-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, adaptive cruise, lane-keeping, blind-spot monitoring, and automatic emergency braking. Higher trims add things like rear entertainment, CabinWatch, navigation, and better audio.

Final Thoughts

Minivans have turned into a surprisingly competitive niche, especially with hybrids like the Sienna and Carnival Hybrid grabbing attention for their fuel economy. Even so, the Odyssey still wins over buyers who want a usable cabin, simple V6 power, and a drive that doesn’t feel like you’re piloting a bus.

If you need space but don’t want to commit long-term or pay big upfront, these Odyssey lease deals make it easier to get in. Leasing also works if you like swapping cars every few years and want to stay under warranty.

Minivans may have a domesticated image in America, but it’s a different matter around the world. Many markets have tapped the potential of the luxury minivan market, and for Toyota, it’s paying off big time. In Japan and parts of Asia, Toyota has been in the posh minivan game for over 20 years. It started with the Alphard, and eventually added the Vellfire as a ‘sporty’ alternative.

Park an Alphard or a Vellfire next to a Sienna, and those models look and feel like Lexus products, especially in higher trim levels. So, in 2019, Toyota actually put on Lexus badges on the Alphard and rolled out the LM. As it is, the Alphard is a plush van, but the LM takes it up by several notches. The first model proved so successful that it warranted a second generation. The LM’s biggest market? None other than China.

Purely Hybrid

The first Lexus LM was offered with either the 3.5-liter V6 that served every midsize Toyota and Lexus model since the mid-2000s, or a four-cylinder hybrid. For the second generation, it has, rather predictably, gone straight for a pure hybrid lineup. It starts with the LM 350h, a 2.5-liter hybrid, and tops out with the LM 500h, a punchier 2.4-liter turbo-hybrid. Its lesser siblings, the Alphard and Vellfire, are still offered with ICE options.

It’s safe to say that the LM should take the pure hybrid route. Save for the GX, every model Lexus makes has an electrified powertrain on offer, and as these luxury minivans aim for a silent, comfortable ride, a hybrid was the only way to go. Now, it seems that there might be a third hybrid choice on the way, as suggested by a recent trademark filing.

A Mid-Spec Model Underway?

The first filing, a little over a week ago, was a trademark registration for the name LM 400h. As the name implies, it hints at a model that might slot in between the 350h and the 500h. Of course, it could simply mean that Toyota is protecting the name to block other automakers from using it.

Still, the idea of a mid-spec LM might appeal to those shopping for one. The 250h makes a relatively conservative 247 hp, while the 500h might seem too much with its combined output of 366 hp. We’re not complaining about the power figure of the latter, but not every LM shopper shares our sentiments.

We can rule out the possibility of it being a plug-in hybrid model. The lack of a ‘+’ suffix suggests the model will be a regular hybrid, although we wouldn’t be too surprised if a PHEV eventually joins the LM lineup. After all, the hardware for that is already available in the Alphard and Vellfire.

Does the LM Have a Chance in the U.S.?

Truth be told, it’s hard to say. On the one hand, the LM offers far more space than an LX, and there’s heaps more seating flexibility in terms of space and adjustment. On the flip side, it’s difficult to gauge whether the U.S. market will warm up to the idea of a family shuttle turned into an executive lounge.

The LM’s formula has already proved successful in Asia, and it’s doing well in Europe, given its niche status there. Lexus isn’t shy from pushing the idea to the next level, either, as the company might turn the LS into an even more opulent sibling for the LM, evolving from Luxury Sedan to Luxury Space.

Whenever you sign off on a loan, be it from the bank or for a car with in-house financing, you’d want to know every single detail, or at least you should do your due diligence to get the information in front of you. Likewise, dealers and lenders are supposed to show you how much you will eventually pay before signing. Both parties are supposed to be transparent, though that might not be the case in this story, Automotive News reports.

So what’s happening with this Atlantic Kia dealership in New York and its customer? According to the plaintiff, Jean Garcia, the used vehicle they bought is priced “grossly-inflated” and “packed with costly hidden charges.” According to the dealer, they extended a gesture in good faith. According to the client, forged documents were involved. The plot thickens.

It Started with a Carnival

This auto loan circus is nothing new, nor is the 2023 Kia Carnival that the customer and plaintiff bought secondhand from Atlantic Kia in West Islip, New York, in December 2025. According to him, Garcia was the victim of “a variety of sharp and deceptive sales practices.”

Garcia negotiated the price of the car down to $33,325 from $34,150 that the dealer was selling it for. He then made a $5,891 down payment and digitally signed the documents. One issue was that the included retail installment sales contract was in the documents that Garcia signed, which was not explained to him – allegedly. It was only after he reviewed the sales contract that Garcia realized the price had been inflated by $8,175, leaving him with a total of $41,500, according to the lawsuit.

Lawyer’s Reactions

Garcia’s lawyer, Robert Nahoum of Pearl River, N.Y., stated that his client’s “attempts to resolve the matter were met with persistent and continuing deception and obfuscation [by the dealer].” On the other hand, Kia New York’s defense said that Garcia returned to the establishment to complain about the car’s price after the deal.

Graciously, Kia New York offered a “full refund” or a refund of $1,971 of Garcia’s purchase price. Presented with these two options, Garcia declined both. Since Kia offered these two options, it has made an effort in good faith to smooth out the situation. Lawyer John Gentile, general counsel to the Atlantic Auto Group, stated that “the dealership did nothing wrong.”

However, Garcia contends that when he returned and asked the dealership about the discrepancy, he was shown an unsigned purchase order listing the higher price and obtained the sales documents from the lender. In doing so, he saw a purchase order with a forged signature, according to the suit.

Hidden Charges and Damages

Other than the inflated price, the dealer also included some “hidden charges” in Garcia’s purchase, which included a $695 “acquisition” fee, a $2,995 “inland freight charge“, and a $1,895 “recondition” fee. None of the fees were included in any of the documents that Garcia signed and left unsigned.

The plaintiff, Garcia, is seeking damages for the violation of New York’s consumer protection and motor vehicle laws, false advertising, and fraud. The defendant is the lender, being the assignee of the sales contract.

America’s 250th birthday isn’t just a calendar event – it’s already showing up in showrooms. Stellantis has been busy with special editions from Dodge, Jeep, and Ram, but Chrysler was the odd one out. That changes with the 2027 Pacifica America250 (A250) package.

The A250 package lands on the updated 2027 Pacifica Select. It’s Chrysler’s way of joining Stellantis’ partnership with the America250 group. Only 2,100 will be built for US buyers, so this family hauler earns a rare badge.

Patriotic Details Inside and Out

You get three color choices: Red Hot, Bright White, and Hydro Blue. No surprise there, given the theme. Chrysler didn’t stop at paint, either. There are US flag decals, America250 badges on the doors and liftgate, and star graphics running down the sides and front.

Beyond the stickers and badges, the Pacifica A250 rides on 20-inch Foreshadow wheels, fully painted, with blacked-out trim on the grille, roof rack, badges, and rear. The result is a mix of patriotic tribute and blackout package – an unusual combo, but it works.

Inside, Chrysler went further than just swapping out seat covers. Black leather seats get Ruby Red stitching in all three rows. Up front, blue accents peek through the perforated leather. The front seatbacks wear embossed American flags, and the red, silver, and blue stitching even shows up on the steering wheel and trim.

There’s more: dark ruby seat belts, Liquid Titanium bezels, an America250 splash screen on the gauges, and even a special keychain. If you want to skip the decals, Chrysler will let you delete them and give you a $495 credit.

Pricing and Availability

You can order the Pacifica A250 now, with deliveries set for this summer. The package adds $2,995 to the Pacifica Select. That puts the starting price at $46,540 for front-wheel drive, or $49,535 if you want all-wheel drive, before taxes and fees.

The Pacifica now joins the Stellantis America250 lineup, alongside Jeep, Ram, and Dodge’s anniversary models. Stellantis is also bringing back 0% APR deals for the occasion.

Faraday made some noise by announcing its FX Super One Minivan, but less than a year later, the brand hit pause after deciding that its 400V powertrain wasn’t up to snuff with the rest of the industry.

Many brands, especially those from China, are already at the 800V mark or using range extenders. Brands that are at the forefront of EV innovation are already there, which led Faraday to reconsider its powertrain strategy to deliver a better EV experience to prospective clients.

Faster, Longer, Stronger

The move from 400V to 800V will present a challenge to Faraday, as it won’t be able to bring its products to market just yet. However, the move could prove to be a good one, as the 800V architecture opens the door to “longer range, faster charging speeds, and superior powertrain efficiency,” according to Faraday.

Range-extended vehicles are also in the brand’s radar, as they are “well-suited to extreme-cold winter regions such as the U.S. East Coast.” This follows suit with other manufacturers that are joining the Range-Extender EV race, like Volkswagen, with some of its China-exclusive models, or RAM with its REV lineup. For many markets without a mature charging network, a range-extended EV might be just what the doctor ordered until full infrastructure maturity is achieved.

On the full-EV front, we’re seeing pretty much every new high-horsepower EV (launched or to be launched) coming with at least an 800V architecture to support megawatt charging speeds, as is the case with BYD with its Flash Charge and Geely with its sub-four-minute megawatt charging standard, and ranges that could rival some hybrids. Other brands like Mercedes, Polestar, and Volvo are all in the 800V camp already, and Faraday wants to be at the forefront.

Pumping the Brakes

For now, we expect the Faraday FX Super One Minivan to go back into the lab for a new 800V architecture. The company hopes to bring the model to mass production as soon as possible, but it’s “subject to securing financing from strategic or medium-to-long-term investors.”

As for when the model will make it to market, Faraday optimistically stated that the “first phase of delivery within 6 to 9 months,” while the “second phase of delivery within 12 to 15 months, and the ” third phase of delivery within 21 to 24 months.” This timeline outlines the company’s push if it were to go with the 800V architecture.

However, if the REEV route were to be exploited, it would take longer for Faraday to deliver, with the first phase expected within 9 to 12 months and the second phase within 21 to 24 months. Following that, the third phase might come within 24 to 28 months, according to their projections.

Historically, Faraday hasn’t had the best luck, so we might have an indefinite delay on our hands. Still, the company remains hopeful of meeting its promised timelines, provided it can secure investors for its vision.

Replacing the quirky, strangely lovable Previa in 1998, the Sienna took over as Toyota’s minivan, and it’s been that way for nearly 30 years. Four generations of the Sienna have been made since then, each one proving to be a solid seller for the company.

Fully redesigned in 2020 for the 2021 model year, the latest model shifted to full-hybrid power while building on the strengths of its predecessor. More than five years have passed since its debut, but the minivan has been receiving a steady stream of updates to keep it competitive.

2026 Toyota Sienna Lease Deals for May

The good news is that the Sienna remains one of the least expensive minivans to lease. This month’s lease deal comes in at $359 for 36 months with $3,999 due at signing, at least for the Greater New York area. It’s specific to the entry-level LE model, and it’s effectively the least expensive hybrid minivan to lease this month.

As always, there are ways to lower those expenses. There is a $500 rebate for qualified military personnel and a $500 rebate for college students. It’s $0.15 for every mile exceeding 10,000 miles per year, and this offer is valid until June 1, 2026. That being said, lease offers vary per area, so it’s best to consult your nearest dealer.

2026 Toyota Sienna Highlights

The 2026 Toyota Sienna is available in six trims, namely LE, XLE, XSE, Limited, Woodland Edition, and Platinum. Its base prices range from $40,820 to $58,210, so there’s been a slight price increase over the last couple of months. As mentioned, hybrid power is standard on all models, and all are fitted with Toyota Safety Sense, an advanced driver-assist system.

Other standard equipment includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with tri-zone climate control and power sliding doors. For 2026, the LE gets more kit, including an eight-speaker sound system, rear window shades, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a windshield wiper de-icer. XLE models add a sunroof and hands-free sliding-door operation, while the Limited gets a 12-speaker JBL audio system and a larger digital cluster.

As for the Woodland, there’s more ground clearance, unique styling touches, and standard all-wheel drive. At the top is the Platinum, which has every option ticked, including a vacuum cleaner and a mini-cooler.

The now-familiar 2.5-liter hybrid powertrain is standard across all Sienna trims. Its total output is rated at 245 hp, while economy varies by trim. As mentioned, the Woodland comes standard with all-wheel drive, but all trims can be specified with it. The Sienna also holds the distinction of being the only hybrid minivan with available all-wheel drive.

Final Thoughts

Three-row crossovers may be the dream family shuttle for most, but when it comes to sheer sense and practicality, nothing beats a minivan. While it lost out to the Chrysler Pacifica in terms of sales last year, the Sienna remains a great choice in its class. Of course, the main hook is standard hybrid power and all-wheel drive, and that’s helped by a wide variety of models, a long list of standard equipment, and fair pricing.
